If it's done well, either is fine with me. Granted, I don't pay attention to the artists, unless I really like their work - like Alex Ross's art, for instance.

(Also, that Godzilla comic has my interest piqued, what's it called?)

I view Jim Lee's art as the true standard of what Comic Book Superhero art should like in this modern day and age that everyone else should emulate him with 100% accuracy.

But I like me the artists that did Kingdom Come and Batman the Killing Joke.

Stylized usually but depends on the artist, like with gaming, comics has the option for more unique looks so sticking to realism is a bit of a shame, ditto with hentai (I might as well be the first),

I do wonder is Kingdom Come realistic or Stylized (or both)?

I say it leans more to realistic

I usually prefer it stylized. Most of the time, it's got more personality that way.

I think it depends on the story, a dark gritty story will benefit from a more realistic style whilst a more light heated one will benefit from a more stylised approach.

There are of course exceptions to this but can you imagine this

done in a realistic style?

or would this still have the same fandom

done in a less realistic way?

It depends. If it's a noire-y, dark comic, go realistic. If it's a superhero, fantasy, or sci-fi comic, go stylized. I find that superhero comics drawn in a realistic style look, at the very least, mildly stupid.

Where's my 'Don't Care' option? I like to see different artists strut their stuff.

Hey, it's still a valid opinion. Not posting would mean I have no feelings on the art of comics at all.

I would actually say that Jim Lee is stylized, but I like that style. Its like 90s comics style. Jim Lee was a huge inspiration growing up, but I always favored Marc Silvestri's style better.

That isn't in anyway meant to say he is better, it really is a matter of technique. They both use the same style. Another good one I rate right up there with these guys is the late Michael Turner.

Generally speaking though, I think the artist's style depends on the genre of comic too. Superhero art would probably do less for a story in the horror genre. It would almost destroy anything in the vein of comedy. I like various styles but in each genre I have my preferences. I like the exaggerated style to superheroes offered by Lee and Silvestri most. Just as I love fantasy work done by the likes of Boris and Julie.

EDIT: You also have "cartoony" which may be what you were going for with stylized. Technically, all of it is stylized, so probably just vague wording.

It depends on what the comic is about. Realistic artwork would look best in a grim and gritty, down to earth book like Watchmen or The Punisher. If the story is more off the wall like a Superman book or any story written by Grant Morrison, than a stylized artstyle would be more fitting.

I don't know Sin City was Stylized and so Sandman so its not like Stylized can't be used in serious books hell that Godzilla book was about the destruction Godzilla made

I definitely lean towards stylism, which can often look more free and dynamic on the page as opposed to strict realism, that said it also depends on the artist. Some artist make me question if they ever learned to draw properly

but I think the coloring has more of an overall impact I can't stand earthy gross muted coloring
