This is not a thread about whether or not you think communism works. This is about what you think about communism's relation to homosexuality. Over history it has ranged from acceptance to apathy to condemnation, and has been thought of as a product of the bourgeois in the lattermost context.

I myself am apathetic towards the concept of homosexuality; as long as it doesn't cause problems for the proletariat and a possible communist revolution I have no issue with it.

Again, I don't want this to become a flame war and I don't want this to become a debate of whether or not communism works; there's already a thread for that which has been raging for days.

EDIT: I ask this because throughout the history of communism there have been conflicting views on the subject of homosexuality.

I do not see how homosexuality would affect communism. I also don't see how it's a product of the bourgeois.

Communism and Homosexuality have no link whatsoever beyond coincidence.

One is an economy system and the other is a sexual orientation.

Tell that to the school system, it's confusing our children! "We're all different, but everyone's the same inside"

I was talking more about in Communism everyone is equal. Not in the world, because no, not everyone is equal in the world.

I am going to have to follow this stance as well.

but let's humor this concept for a moment and go a little further with some basic rounded off numbers.
"Recent studies show that homosexuals take up 10% of the population, bisexuals take up 15% of the population, and heterosexuals take up 75% of the population."

However, I believe that the percentages for bisexual may be a bit higher than that.

Now given that base information, I don't think there is any reason to believe it would impact the birth rate significantly, and I believe that's the only real factor that could directly interfere with communism. You require a replenished populace through the normal methods of procreation. I dare even conjecture that this might serve as a minor population control device, thus being beneficial to an extent, provided the sexual preference of these people does not interfere with their ability to be useful members of society.

Yes, he really is that good.

(I mean, good lord, the linkage between the two is non-extant!)

I like what I'm seeing here. Anybody can contribute to to society regardless.

i'd really have to say they don't care either way since most homophobia is purported by the church and most commuists are agnostic/atheist rather than religious. so i say apathetic

As it seems to me, in practice, communism' best bet is to accept homosexuality so that rejection of sexual preference does not lead to a revolt later on.

However, in the most basic of terms, communism implies that everyone is equal and the same, and if most people are hetero, then homosexuality may pose problems for the most stringent of communist followers because then not everyone is the same/equal. But that is another debate entirely I think; and I do not mean to offend w/ my ignorance or w/ any of the words I just spewed out there, so please correct me if you wish, but know that I'm more than willing to correct myself.

Communism is an Ideology, and Homosexuality is, that's right, a sexuality. I don't see why they wouldn't work together. Acceptance.

There is no reason for a communist society to persecute homesexuality. If everyone is supposed to be equal, there's no reason not to extend that right to gay people. I certainly don't see how anybody could think that homosexuality would cause any problems for the proletariat or a communist revolution.

Um what? Why are you asking this? The two aren't related. They are completely seperate things, it's like trying to relate...democracy and heterosexuality. They have NOTHING to do with each other.

Dude have you read of or at least seen on TV how communist states treated homosexuals (at least in the 1900's)? Well it wasn't pretty, homosexuals still have a hard time in countries like Cuba and China. People often make the mistake of linking communism to liberalism, but NEVER has there been a liberal communist state, and if there has been or if there is, PLEASE let me know where this utopia is located.

I still fail to understand why people would have anything against someone with a different sexual orientation than hetero. In my head it doesn't make sense. "Against"? "I'm against homosexuals"? To me, that's like saying "I'm against Chinese people."
As if ethnic/sexual identity was something made by choice, or even something to be ashamed of. *confused face*
