The only RTS games that I EVER liked on the consoles were Populous: The Beginning and Red Alert: Retaliation.

Keep the rest on PC. As for you, OP,

I feel that when done right, an RTS on a console can work well.

The problem for most console RTSs is selecting specific units. In battle for middle earth 2 on the PC, its much easier to select a few units in the back of your army for a flanking attack. While on the console, its harder to do that. Menu navigation in game is much easier on the console cause usually the menus are assigned to buttons or easily selectable stuff. I have more RTSs on the PC so I'm better on the PC. That's probably the only reason I choose them over console ones.

My favorite genre is RTS. For most of my life I've been playing them on my P.C. However just recently I got "Halo Wars" and "Red Alert 3" for my xbox. Believe it or not I liked the console RTS controls better than the PC RTS controls. It felt way more organic to paint over the units to select them, instead of selecting them using click and drag. And the subtraction of the minimap didn't bother me at all. Not to mention that the graphics are waaay better on consoles. What do you think?
Organic? You're complaining about a PC interface not being organic compared to a console?

Play Supreme Commander and then tell me that. The tactical zoom is more organic than anything I've ever seen in an RTS, EVER. And graphics, do-

OHHHH

OK

YOU REALLY HAD ME GOING THERE FOR A SECOND GOOD JOB ^_^

I am trying to imagine how horrible your computer must be. For it to be worse than a console, and you still play games on it.... I am just not feeling it.

The RTS can work on a console its just never been done, too do one properly requires a completly from the ground up mechanic, the point and click excel spreadsheet style of PC RTS is never going to work on a controller.
"Excel spreadsheet style"?

What on God's green earth do an Excel spreadsheet and Muta-Lurker herding in Starcraft have to do with each other?

Should Halo Wars control be called "model aircraft style" if a radio-controlled plane used a console-like controller?

I have never seen a more disagreeable opinion in my entire life.

Seriously man, I don't think I've ever felt this way at this magnitude about an argument in my entire stay here at the Escapist. I don't want to go overboard with how extremely wrong I think you are, so I'll just leave with these words:
Console RTS games are the single worst offense to the RTS genre in the history of forever.
...in my opinion, of course. You can believe whatever you want.

I disagree.
I prefer the controls on the PC, and it is much easier to micro manage on a key board.
This and Halo wars denied me of my usual stratage of making a ton of units while turtiling and send a hug wave to wipe out everything.

By that logic, yes.

Most people agree that PC RTS's are better because PC's have:

-better graphics
-better performance
-better ease in controls (I don't care what you think or say, two joysticks will never be as accurate and comfortable as a mouse)

(I hated Halo Wars' control system, but then again, I'm a veteran of PC RTS's.)

Console graphics are not > than PC graphics. Maybe you should upgrade, then judge.

Not everyone has enough money to spend on an expensive PC
You could have spent the money used to buy an X360 and two games to upgrade a computer, or to buy a good portion of a new one. That's what, at least 300 bucks?

I bought a new, very good video card and ram recently, and I paid about a third of that.

I have to agree with you on that one. I haven't seen any games that have sold me on the ported genre.

point and click, action in the centre options on the screen edge
lots of boxes

console rts needs to be a new genre it just can't take well established RTS PC genre and make it work on a controller it needs to be re done from the ground up

TC, you should have activated your flame-shield.
Which he could've done if he had a hotkey for it. SNAP!

Oh well, he can always controlled kite the flamers with a fast moving skirmish unit and then hit 2 to switch over to his long range units to take them out. Oh wait. SNAP AGAIN!

I respectfully disagree. I believe it is quicker and more responsive using a keyboard and mouse than a controller, as well as having much more buttons for hotkeying and groups.
