Poll: cutscene fast forward

So after reading the thread about game subtitles and if you would use them, I noticed alot of people listed their reason for not using them as being the fact they read faster than people talk.
I myself always use subtitles and if I can skip to the next segment after reading the dialog I will do so 99% of the time (I don't have all day), When watching videos I will usually run them at at least 150% speed so I can watch them faster (Again I don't have all day).
So the obvious question, Would you like games (more) games to have the option to speed up cutscenes?

I would also find a rewind option far more useful than fast forward, for example if someone walks into the room and starts talking to me about something, distracting me from the cutscene.

Maybe? Conkers Bad Fur Day had an option to skip cutscenes only after a complete play-through. That's a better way of doing it if the cutscenes are needed to understand the story.

Personally, I don't see the point of forcing the player to watch the cutscenes the first time around, so I'd rather every cutscene was unconditionally skippable. Not that I tend to skip them first time round (they would have to be incredibly boring and long for me to consider it), but it just seems pointless to disallow it.

There are games that could benefit from this, yes. That's all that really needs to be said, honestly.

Every single game should have skippable cutscenes. Period. It is so tedious going through some games. I see you there, FFX!!!

Just make it a double tap, so that you can't accidentally skip. God damn does FFX need skippable cutscenes though. Freaking Yunalesca.

At the very least, after the first time you see something, you should be able to skip it.

I'm playing Dark Souls and I really appreciate the fact that not only are most of the cutscenes(baring the opening)are short and sweet, but if it's a boss introduction, you don't watch the cutscene after the first time you fight the boss. And even the boss cutscenes are rarely more then a minute long.

I also recently finished Life is Strange and I'm so glad there was a fast forward in conversations, especially in a game where you can redo conversations over and over again in order to try to get the best outcome(except for that one part, where it really makes a difference that you can't rewind).

It's funny, because whenever I think of unskippable cutscenes that should be skippable, FFX immediately comes to mind. Especially the annoying habit of putting incredibly long cutscenes just before difficult boss fights, because apparently someone worked REALLY HARD on those cutscenes.

Only in replays or repeated cutscenes (and only if the cutscene isn't good). I always give to a cutscene at least one chance.

If it was an option i would probably use it in some cases. Usually i don't skip cutscenes unless i'm replaying the game or just a part of it.

I second the "rewindable cutscene" thing - some cutscenes, I just really love.

I'm not opposed to the idea of unskippable cutscenes UNLESS I've been around the block enough times to know, so I guess the first time you play with no skippable cutscenes is okay but I'd like that option for a second playthrough.

Or sometimes the game changes in the middle - the first episode of King's Quest 2k15 didn't have a "skip" button but the subsequent episodes did so that's always good. One of my favourite things about Okami on the Wii and PS3 was the option to skip where the PS2 version didn't.

So, I mean, I guess, though I always watch cutscenes at least the first time I play a game, anyway.

Sure don't see why there's any reason not too have them, I wouldn't use it myself unless it was rewatching it after dying to a boss, others in the thread have already mentioned it but fuck FFX.

But I also think that you should be able to pause cutscenes. There's been a few times where I'm watching a scene and my phone rings or someone knocks on the door. Being able to pause so I won't miss out on the story or next objective given would be nice.
Alternatively, have the cut-scenes be re watchable from a menu once you've seen them the first time. There are older adventure games that did this and I'm not sure why it went away. If nothing else, it's nice when a game drops a plot twist in your lap and you want to go back and watch an earlier cut-scene that you vaguely remember.

The first time I encounter a cutscene, I will watch it fully, but at any subsequent time, I will skip them if I don't like the scene. There are Scenes in games where I just need to watch them EVERY-SINGLE-DAMN-TIME they happen.
Unskipable cutscenes are the bane of games where you can die a lot, like let's say a scene right before a very difficult boss-fight.

In general I think that if you're willing to let players skip past cutscenes, then why did you put them there in the first place?

I don't understand the insistence of forcing players to watch a cutscene, even if it's for the first time. Unless there are crucial clues, dialogue prompts or timed reflexive button mashing (QTE?), designers should let players bypass them if they don't care.

But isn't that the thing? Clues, as in plot points? Most cut scenes involve the game's plot. And these days, everything has prompts. QTEs are out the door, so that's good. But yeah, plot points are plot points and most cutscenes have them.

I will have to disagree, a fast forward option is not going to do, if you're playing for the story or character you won't want to advance past them, and if you're not invested on the story at all a skip button would be much more appreciated.

"Important plot points and clues" Okay, I'll give yoy that, but Quick Time events are something that needs to stop completely, considering the start of the cutscene wires your brain to laid back and lower your senses as the challenge stopped, a Quick Time event is almost always immersion-breaking, because the button prompt will signal to your brain to quickly wake up, reach for the control and remember where the button is so you will press it, it may not seem important, but that drives one out of the experience the atmosphere and the tone tried so hard to set up.
