So I'm getting one of these two games for my PS3. I'll get the other eventually, but I feel like getting one now. The library where I work has Dante's Inferno (Maybe they have both even). The problem is that I was like "I'll get the one with the highest score on IGN" but it's a tie. So Escapist, which one should I get and why?

Well first of all I'd say this is more something for Gaming Discussion, rather than the Advice Forums.

Also, I've heard that Castlevania is pretty good, so I'd go with that one.

Edit: also, since you have a PS3 and are looking for a hacky-slashy game, why don't you get God of War III, the mother of all hacky-slashy games?

First of all: IGN reviews are bullshit. I know - MOST reviews are bullshit, IGNS are the worst.

NEVER LISTEN TO IGN.

That is my advice.

Now for your question, do you want a simple Hack/Slash based on an old book. Or a simple hack/slash with a pedigree of Games?
I agree with the IGN thing. Practically no one is trustworthy, but IGN is 99% BS.

Anyway, I liked dante's inferno. The settings were brilliant, the enemies creative, the combat had a nice flow to it, and the story, although a butchering of Dante aligheri's classic, was solid enough to motivate you.

Sadly it's quite short. Also, a lot of other people didn't enjoy it as much.

Castlevania was pretty good to begin with, even brilliant, but eventually, the puzzles got to a point where I quit. Tons of puzzles without any clues, and then when I got to the mother of all annoying puzzles, a damn hedge maze, I gave in and sold it.

So, DI; short, simple, and fun. Castlevania; long (apparently, it's forty hours to complete.), complex, frustrating, but possibly a more satisfying experience if you can endure it. The choice is yours.

I hear that Castlevania is much better then Dante's Inferno, but it depends on what you like, I would say that Dante's Inferno is more about Hell and punishment, and castlevania is about a quest of love, redemption and killing of monsters.

I still think that Castlevania would be the better option.

Only played Castlevania but I thought it was really good.

And with the puzzles, I don't see how that other guy had so much trouble. I thought the puzzles were just right. They made you think enough to feel good about solving them but they were so hard that they got frustrating (although there was one I think that was a little annoying.) Basically, one of the only games where I felt as though they got the difficulty of the puzzles just right.

Also, you could get the game to do the puzzle for you if you couldn't work it out. But by getting the game to do it, you don't get the experience points for completing it yourself.

I've played both and Castlevania is far superior. Dante's Inferno is very intriguing and well put together at the start but it really starts to trail off about midway through and becomes clumsy and cheap towards the end. They seemed to run out of clever ways to represent the sins.

Lords of Shadow was produced by Hideo Kojima and narrated by Patrick Stewart. I think the choice is obvious.

Now, I may need to preface this with saying that I do not own a PS3, but from what I've seen of the two... (I have played them both at my friends house, though)

Personally, I would shell out for Castlevania. The previous 3d Castlevania was absolute bollocks, but I don't know... Lords of Shadow has a much nicer design, I think, than Dante's Inferno. It's much sunnier, and brighter, and less brown and dreary, and I think the plot is a lot better. Though, the combat is a lot more difficult.

On the other hand, Dante's Inferno was absolutely hilarious. Not because it was a comedy game, or anything, but because it was so easy to make fun of. Honestly, gather round a couple of friends, and give it a go, and you'll die so many times because you can't stop laughing at how ridiculous half the game is.

Oh, and Satan is the greatest villain in all of video game history. Just saying.
