I have two friends who insist that Dead Space is one of the scariest games ever, and I just didn't get scared by it, sure it had some jump moments but it didn't make me feel anything I'd label as fear. I must add that I've been a big horror fan since my youth so I might be a tad desynthesized.

I just felt that the sense of vunerability that horror relies upon was thrown to the four winds when you get enough money together to turn your character from a humble engineer to an armored death machine. What do you think guys did Dead Space scare you or not?

Not anything. It is an action game with a light designer that thinks he is making a horror movie, while the writer thinks he is writing a sci-fi, and a character designer that has played too much Call of Cthulhu but totally missed the point. Oh, and when the sound designer wakes up, he plays sudden bursts of noises very loudly, to go along with that whole "horror" aspect. That, my friend, it Dead Space.

I found the first few jumps to be scary (HD with surround sound), but after awhile you got used to the hairs on the back of your neck.

USE THE SEARCH BAR, GUY!

That's the first time I've said that. Anyway, no, I wouldn't call it "scary" - it likes to jump out every once in a while and yell "BOO"; sure, the atmosphere is pretty creepy, but it's a flickery-light space ship painted with every shade of gray and brown imaginable, so of course it's creepy.

That was the most unscariest "scariest" game in my life. Doom was more scarier. It might have had a chance if they didn't have that douche camera.

It was scary at first. When two or three enemies popped up out of nowhere, it startled/scared me. But after awhile it just got annoying to have the game waste the resources i worked so hard to gather on an enemy that popped out of nowhere. So, short answer is not scary, annoying.

Would have been scarier in first-person

There was nothing psychological to the horror, but I guess it makes you jump, and it does get tense sometimes.

Kinda scared me at some parts, made me jump, but not enough for it to be classified as a real 'horror' game. Doesn't mean I didn't love it, though.

Tell your friends to play System Shock 2. With headphones. In the dark. Stay in the room so you can dial 911 when they have heart attacks.
