Poll: DLC already on discs?

I've been reading around forums looking for info on MW2 DLC (release dates etc.) and from what I've seen it sounds as if the content itself is already on the disc, so essentially we will be paying for the code to unlock what's already there. Now this isn't the first time this has happened with DLC for games. (RE5 anyone?)

Anyway, the main thing I found is everyone is complaining about this, saying they won't pay for it because they already own it etc. In my opinion this dosent bother me in the slightest. The less content I have to download and have taking up space on my HDD the better.
Realistically companies are going to charge for DLC regardless of how it's accessed. Does this sort of thing bother you?

Mildly, mainly for the same reasones mentioned in OP. Although, it doesen't bother me as much as most.

it annoys me that the content was ready on the release date but was withheld from the player. it's not that i already own it that i have a problem with, but rather that i don't own it.

I don't buy many new games and when I do they are by Valve on the PC. Generally speaking I won't buy a game until it is below £20, preferably £10 so the DLC is usually all over and done with by then.

yeah it's kinda bullshit that they already had content on release date that they withheld just to make more money later. Add on to that that they even had it on the disc to begin with and it's like adding insult to injury.

In a lot of these cases the DLC is already downloaded to your hard drive through an update and you have to pay to have these things activated. This mostly goes for online games where you can see players using the DLC content even when you can't use it.
In that sense, I can completely understand it.

Some games take the DLC cash-in scheme too far though. The Katamari game on the 360 even requires you to pay for and download all the DLC levels to get all the original achievements. In other words, it's game content on the disc that you need to clear the entire game that they want you to pay extra for.
That sense, makes me get rid of those games and never play them again.

This is pretty much one of my pet hates. Namco are terrible for this. You own that content, you've bought it on the disc. There is no reason whatsoever you should pay extra for it.

I can understand the annoyance of this, but I prefer that I don't have to use my precious download limit on an extra GB of data that they could have saved on the disc. Also, it means I can save my HDD space for more movies :D If they don't put it on the disc they are going to charge for it anyway!

I don't mind paying for DLC; helps me enjoy the game that much more. But paying for "unlock keys" are fucking stupid (SC4 with Vader and some of the extra weapons, SF4 for the extra costumes, just to name a few).

As far as I'm concerned, forcing players to pay to unlock something that is ALREADY ON THE DISC THEY JUST BOUGHT is WAY into the "bad" side of DLC. (Looking at you EA!)

Given the lack of content and full price of MW2 I would call bullshit had I bought it. They could at the very least have made it available on release...

Rather have it already on the disc. Thinking they'd give you the content for free is naive, to say the least. So at least I save the download time and HDD space.

Even though I never bought any DLC yet, to be honest. *Fallout 3 GotY owner*

Would it not be possible for people to hack it to get it for free since it's already on there?

It's nothing to do with the HD space, the downloads of this nature are only a few kilobytes. They're a key to unlock something that's already there, nothing more or less. The content is already taking up that space on your disc. You just can't access it.

Not to gripe but that's a pretty poorly worded poll, say what you want in the post but your poll should at least have options that aren't slanted like that.

As for the question, if content is supplied on the disk then it should be available when you put it in the drive. The whole concept of DLC/expansion packs is that you're paying for separate content developed later that plugs into your existing game; if you have it preinstalled but locked they may as well charge you for it at the register because it's essentially part of the price to play the original game.

By the way just another pet peeve here, it's technically not DLC if it comes on the disk, because you're not downloading it. I suggest we call that sort of thing "unlockable content", or ULC. Something like that, anyways.

I'd rather have the DLC put onto a seperate disc and released in stores.

Depends on the gaming system I suppose. Time and time again PC owners at the very least have no trouble bypassing on-disc DLC blocks.
