Poll: DMC 5 Why all the hatred?

From the very beginning of the DMC 5 release people have literally torn the trailers, the gameplay, the combat and each other apart over it. Angry shouts about 'the true DMC fans won't play this game this isn't Dante' and 'they've changed the frame rate from 60fps to 30fps it's going to suck'. Why do people hate this game already? Why are they condemning Ninja Theory for trying something new at the behest of Capcom? What is wrong with a new adaptation of a character if all the Over The Top action, combat and wise cracks are still there?

Go for it but keep it clean and civil.

Unacceptable I say!

Well I was never a big fan fan of the series so it's not an issue to me, but let's say someone changes Alyx into an anorexic emo crack whore in the new installment... I would have more then a few unkind words to say.

And if that fps claim is true then they really have no clue what they are doing, a fast paced brawler such as this needs to be responsive or it is completely pointless.

Also Ninja Theory hasn't got a good track record when it comes to gameplay so this might have been a real bad idea.

I honestly don't care. As long as the combat system is good and lets me pull off the exploits then I'll be happy with it.

I've never been that fussed about the look of DMC as long as the gameplay is solid. Unfortunately DMC5 now has to compete with Bayonetta and I'm really not expecting it to meet that high mark.

On an unrelated note, I'd love to see a cross-over of Bayonetta and Dante. Those two would make snarky killings of opponents so awesome that.....

Well, let's just say I'm not going any farther with that thought. The awesomeness might be too much for the average gamer to handle.

It's just the darkside of fandoyism raising it's head is all, I think the game is looking better and better with each new trailer and I'm looking forward to playing it, but I am regretting not being able to find out what becomes of Vergil.

Pretty much this. I will admit that I was a definite "hater" of this game the moment that they changed up Dante from being a complete snarky prick with a funny sense of humour and laid back attitude. To What he is now (honestly he comes off as kind of emo to me and there are a few other gripes I have with the new DMC).

BUT It did get better for me when they finally claimed it as an alternate Dante and not the Dante I know and love anymore. I can't really exlpain in but he just didn't feel "right" to me. The game is however looking pretty good, I went from "Boo! Hiss! This is terrible and nobody should buy it since it's going to suck and I hope it bombs!" To "It looks like it could be good, I guess i'll give it a try and see if i'm surprised or not. It looks kinda interesting" But I honestly don't think that I will like this Dante more, and that might not be the point but I feel that it will hold me back from liking like I should any normal game (feels kinda "knock-offey" to me) so I will just pretend that this is a 100% different game from the others.

P.S. Yes I know i'm a DMC fanboy and that I don't like change that much, so don't bother quoting me just to say that i'm a fanboy and that i'm wrong for being one

Mostly it's fans been retarded and over reacting (by a great deal I might add)

There's been alot of blame put upon Ninja Theory whilst ignoring the fact that DMC is still Capcom's baby and will have some input into what changes are made to DMC. Capcom were probably the ones to come up with the idea to re brand dante as an emo kid, if not they certainly gave the go ahead.

Same goes with the gameplay, NT aren't known for their tight gameplay, Capcom knows this and has been working with them. It's up to Capcom to protect their IP and make sure NT makes a good DMC.

For myself I'll leave judgement until I play the game.

Is it really that hard to understand why people hate it when the only thing similar is the names? There is a lot of trust in a name, and a promise of quality and DmC fails to live up to Devil May Cry expectations. To the fans, it doesn't matter if it's a good game or not, what matters is if it's a good DMC.

People are condemning Ninja theory based on their past games where the gameplay was the worst part of the game. They'll praise the story or environments, which can make a good game but that's not what DMC is about. Not to mention I'm not seeing any of NT's quality in this.
In DMC all the over the top action was ssstylish, now they changed it to over the top sadistic, just look at the "style" meter. Even if they are both over the top they are completely different. And the combat is as similar as a 4kids dub to the original. Also DmC doesn't even have the same tone for wisecracks. Compare above to DMC4's Agnus scene. Even flock off feather face is more entertaining then yelling fuck you back and forth.

Oh and not to mention how Tameem has been treating the old fans like saying how he doesn't care what they think and how they secretly want to like it might have something to do with it as well.

DMC 5 will not compete on the gameplay department as bayonetta is the perfect example of fast paced action game so my hopes for classic DMC gameplay are low.

However this game might have a decent story (enslaved was unexpected)and greater environment so it might make up for slow battles......but I shall wait till I play it to make my judgement.

BTW considering success is more about brand recognition than anything I fully expect to see more IPs been dug up and rebranded like this for a newer audience.

Kinda sucks for oldschool fans but if we get some good games so be it. Atleast it's still a hack and slash not a shooter or rpg.

I was one of the vocal haters when this new one was first announced but as I've seen more footage and gameplay I'm starting to come around to thinking that maybe it won't be as horrible as we all first thought. Besides, the DMC fanboy in me couldn't help but squee a little bit when I found out that Mundus was gonna be the main antagonist.

A lot of the hate that's still around at this point is either the blind, irrational varity or coming from the hardest of the hardcore DMC fans who won't be happy at all. I'd consider myself to be one of those fans but I still think that DMC4 was kinda shit looking back on it all so something new like this may not be a terrible idea. The story was going nowhere fast once they introduced Nero and Dante was growing far too powerful, it's no fun when the protagonist doesn't even have a challenge, hence why DMC and DMC 3 are so much better.

Pretty much this. I loved the tone of the series series so far. This game seems to take itself too seriously with no class to back it up. Not a fan to say the very least

Why all the hatred for anything? Why do people waste time and energy on things that they hate? Sure I have things that I hate, but I don't waste a whole lot of time dwelling on them unless I'm immediately confronted by them, like now for example.

Well the fps is going to be capped at 30fps instead of 60fps and the gameplay is probably going to suffer because of it. Also they changed Dante so damn much, like way too much. Considering he's a pretty iconic character in gaming and to change him that much, it's like taking Mario and making him some Mexican taco restaurant owner, or something.
