Since a large majority has passed high school and is somewhere in their 20's I'm going to go ahead and assume you've seen at least one Tarantino film and one Suda 51 game. If you've seen one, you know that Quentin makes a movie and does awesomely, and Suda goes about it the same way. It's as if Suda is our Tarantino? I don't have much proof, but feel free to DENY or accept.

This realization/theory became apparent to me after rewatching and thinking about the trailer for Shadows of the Damned. The entire grainy film lens, the character and his name (Garcia Hotspur), the general plot, and even the sidekick made alarms go off saying,"where have I seen this before?" Than it hit me,"Grindhouse!," 'cept replace zombies with demons and mash Planet Terror and Death Proof. Pretty sweet!

They both go for that cult feel and never shy away from controversial scenes (lots of gore, nudity, swearing etc.) but I'd have to say Tarantino is a much bigger beast than SUDA 51.

I mean, videogame weirdness has been around since the NES days and SUDA 51 has expanded upon that artsy, weird technique but Tarantino has created a whole sub-genre of movies which make him kind of a movie prodigy IMO.

Both are awesome though!

I can understand how you came to that conclusion and I have to agree with it a bit but, Tarantino is very well known in the movie industry and Suda 51 just don't seem as well known in the video game community.

I've only played Killer 7 and No More Heroes, and...

I don't know, Killer 7 is extremely unique, and No More Heroes has interesting art style and plot, but at the same time, I wouldn't say it's on the level of Tarantino...

The way I see it, it's like Kill Bill meets Mortal Kombat, and that is awesome!

Not yet, but soon. What if Quentin made a game with Suda?

It's only a matter of time, every artist paints his Mona Lisa, every band has their Stairway to Heaven, and every developer/director has his Megaman X, it's only a matter of time.

On an unrelated note: TRAVIS TOUCHDOWN FOR SUPER SMASH BROS. WiiU!!!

Someone really needs to make the Pulp Fiction of games but I don't think it's going to be Suda 51.
Suda 51 actually reminds me more of Uwe Boll than Quentin Tarantino. In fact, I?d like to see them switch places: Suda make a movie and Uwe make a game since their work in their chosen mediums always seems messy, unfinished, and often downright tedious yet they seem inspired by the other?s medium. You hear about their ideas and think ?hey that could work? but when you try/see it you think ?whoa, that just didn?t work.? Whenever I see/play a Boll/Suda movie/game, my mind wanders to other movies/games I?d rather be watching/playing.

Didn't even remember who Suda51 was till I opened this thread. Never played any of their works either.

I think their styles are very different. Tarantinos movies aren't particulary "artsy", they're clever because of all the little references to other movies but the actual story ist usually pretty simple. Sudas games are usually very complex und full of abstract symbolism. Then there's the thing that Suda is a very distinctively japanese artist while Tarantino is very american. Yes, they both use elements from the other culture like the anime sequence in Kill Bill or the setting of No More Heroes but if you saw a Suda51 game for the first time you'd still know it's japanese. Same with Tarantino. So... well, i really like both of them but i don't think you can compare them.

Ummm, are you serious? Do you know the rep Uwe Boll has? Suda 51 is no Tarantino, but calling him the Uwe Boll is a complete and undeserving insult.

What?! One makes B movies and the other makes B games. The fans of both always seem to make the same excuses about their work: that whatever bad parts were supposed to be unfinished, messy, or tedious. And I can see that appealing to the cynical artsy type but that?s not usually what I?m looking for in a movie and it?s never what I?m looking for in a game.
I don?t know but they seem very similar to me in terms of ?art? and I would love to see what would happen if they switched jobs. If it makes you feel any better, I think Suda?s movie would work out better than Boll?s game.

Tarantino? I doubt it. If there is an equivalent in the film industry, I haven't heard of him. David Lynch perhaps? I don't know.

No, because I don't think we need a Quentin Tarantino of video games. Why would we when we already have a Suda 51, a Hideo Kojima, a Casey Hudson, a Warren Spector etc. If we're constantly looking for comparable people in other industries, gaming will forever be inferior to those other industries.

Dude, have you seen Kill Bill? Pulp Fiction? Inglorious Bastards? He also starred in a couple of (get this) spaghetti Western JAPANESE movies (something Django). He's good, crazy, refuses logic! Dude if you have Netflix and arrange a movie night with your buddies, look for a Tarantino film.

I've seen all of Tarantino's films. All of them. They are good. I have played all of the mainstream games produced by Suda 51. They were also good. They are both quirky in their own ways that gives them a great style. Suda is also not Tarantino.

Right, because we have to branch out and separate ourselves from film or something else...but what does Django mean? The only other time I've seen/heard that name is from Django the solar boy
