I've been curious for awhile about this. I, personally, tend to dream in third-person. It's usually like I'm filming the dream or playing it like a third-person video game. I was wondering if all the gaming had something to do with it, actually. It's about 50/50 whether I'm the character or not. I'm normally a female (which I am irl), but I've been a male plenty of times as well.

However, the perspective has changed in the middle of a dream if it's a climatic moment. Ie: extremely personal violent moment, climax in a sexual dream, a fearful moment and maybe a chase ensues, or something of that magnitude.

So, I was just curious how it was for some other people and please feel free to tell me about some instances!

kind of both, kind of neither. It's hard to explain, but I guess that's just how dreams work.

I believe I do it both ways half the time, I don't really remember most of my dreams and the ones I do I'd rather forget.

I did have one dream a while back where I died in 1st person. The weird thing is it carried on in 3rd person (in a film way, not in a over-the-shoulder way) and dreams being dreams, I just accepted that...

My dreams play out like a really twitchy shooter, switching the perspective constantly. Y'know, like those insanely stupid zoom-ins on the necks of every protagonist in every modern shooter (almost), ever.

A good balance of both actually. You'd think that while dreaming in third person I'd be smart enough to figure out it's a dream since I can see myself, but nope, I guess I'm just dumb.

First person, mainly. Occasionally second person, but those aren't nearly as fun. Ends up being like a video game.

haha. I've only had only one instances that I can think of where I figured out it was a dream. I had my, uh, 3rd person character (for lack of better term) scream at the sky saying "This is a dream and I want to wake up!" It was during a ridiculous moment though. Like, a giant squid creature floating in the air, but I was scared. It was ripping people apart.

But the dream where I was chewing my fingers off and spitting the flesh at the nurses and THEN watched it immediately regrow into skin mittens. No, that didn't make me think it was a dream. >.>

When I dream that I am myself, it's 1st person. When I dream I'm some(one/thing) else, or about some(one/thing) else, it's usually in 3rd person.

I dream in both and in monochrome and color.

The really weird dreams is when I'm two characters at once. Such as when I'm watching a movie but a character in that movie at the same time.

First-person. Then I pull out a BFG9000 and shit goes boom!

In all seriousness though, would be interesting to dream in third person.

Huh... I never really thought that people could dream in third person.

I'm obviously a first person dreamer. I would freak out if I dreamt in third person. I'd feel like I'd have that thing happen where you feel like you are being paralyzed more.
