I say just ask at the beginning of the game if you're a woman or man. If you're a man, Men are clothed fully and girls wear their bikini armor. If you're a woman, girls are covered up and men run around with no shirts and the most perfect abs in existence.

Everyone wins.

I like good armor design no matter what, sadly the males get generic armor while females usually get something different. Give the ladies some fan service too why don't ya.

I don't like the concept.

The whole thing just seems idiotic when I think about it with any semblance of logic, but I would be lying if I said I didn't love looking at it.

The best ones to me are the ones that are actual armor, but can still look good.

Hate it. Especially when the same piece of armor looks different when a woman puts it on, WoW being a popular example of such an offence.
If there is some sorta-believable lore behind it, for instance that it's based on religious reasons and it's only really a group of fanatical nutters who do it, then I'd be okay with it, but if it is just "Boobs, that's why." then whoever came up with it should be penalized in some way. Preferably corporeally.

And I just realized I coincidentally described Witch Elves above. Hmm.

What about barbarian-esque characters? They are usually bare-chested and brawny macho-men... though they usually lack in intellect due to their lack of literacy [http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/barbarian.htm].

If I didn't think that stripper armour was a disgusting, chauvanistic way of pandering to disgusting, chauvanistic people, then I'd still be playing Rift.

I hate the female armour in fantasy games. It makes me feel like some perv simply for picking a female character. I wouldn't mind as much if the armour at least had some practicality, but 99% of the armour I see IG is just so stupidly designed that it can't be anything but immersion breaking for me.

Yeah, their we go now see guys are armor/non-armor typed cast to. Honestly all I care about is design, If it's a game about where we kill hundreds of people or creatures some cleavage/side boob doesn't bother me 1 bit. As long as the armor is awesome all is ok.

Depends on how practical it is.

If a female character is supposed to be stealthy, then a form-fitting outfit wouldn't be too implausible. Chain-mail bikinis, on the other hand, are just stupid.

Basically, I don't like that game designers create female characters with sexiness first and actual character traits second. If I wanted something sexy, I'd browse online for porn, dammit.

it largely depends on the role of the character, and if the aesthetics of a character don't work, then it's doomed, male or female.

on another not, jade empire handled this really well. there war 6/7 character models, and they ranged from "covering", "stripperific", and somewhere in the middle for both male and female. even better was that somewhere in the first town, i overheard a conversation that said that more important, wealthy, or powerful people normally wore less clothes than others. bioware at its best, in my opinion.

I really don't pay much attention to the character not the armor...So I have no strong opinion on the matter.

Screw masking tape, full nudity is where it's at. The female body is impenetrable, after all. Armour just impedes its effectiveness.
Impenetrable? Eh-heh-heh-heh.

OT: I don't mind it most of the time, as long as it doesn't go too far, then it just looks ridiculous.

Context, madam.

Context is everything.
Indeed. For instance, given all the women in StreetFighter are fully clothed and most of the men are near naked...

Absolutely. There desperately needs to be a seperate section of the Skyrim Nexus for all of the adult content on that site. Though I find myself laughing as I point out how it's not lore friendly.

Generally, when females get sexy armor while the males get regular armor, It bothers me. That said sexy armor can be compensated for with a good character development.

Still, It can be irksome sometimes when they pander specifically to male gamers. (Why aren't there more sexy knights and shirtless barbarians for the girls?)
This is how I feel about it. I love seeing female characters in sexy armor because, admittedly, my mind stopped developing sometime between the ages of 14-16.

But at the same time, I absolutely think male characters should be equally skimpy if their female counterparts are running around slaying monsters in lingerie. Think Robert E. Howard's world or even Greek mythology where the human form was idealized.

In ancient Greece male heroes were depicted as fighting naked or close to naked (see: 300) and in Conan both males and females were equally shown in varying degrees of awesomness and sexiness. :)
