Why it's called " pet name" is beyond me. To those who don't know a " pet name" is a really soppy way of adressing someone you are romantically attatched to.

Examples are: pumpkin , sugar, honeybun , honey, poobear, my little bubblebee etc...

so escapists, do you have any pet names for your boyfriend/girlfriend/companion/significant other?

And as a bonus question : Are there any pet names you dislike or find really cheesy?

If you are currently single, wha were some of your old pet names? If you have never been in a romantic relationship, well i guess you can post some you like/dislike.

As for me. As a general rule i dislike petnames, i find them silly and corny. However, my ex girlfriends and current girlfriends have tried to give me some and shot them down one by one ( the pet names, not the girls).

My pet names have included but not limited to:

Woody
Honey
Honey bear
Teddy bear
Snickerdoodle ( bleh)
Wolfy
Sugar

I generally dislike the idea of giving people silly names like these, and when i hear random couples call each other by such names i usually sigh. This is the kind of things you find is bad romantic comedies.

Your turn.

Edit: Sorry this thread belongs in off topic. If a mod would be nice enough to move it there, that would be greatly appreciated.

In school was people either called me:

Woods: Preferred
Woody: Didn't really mind unless the person was someone I didn't really like
Woody Woodpecker: Only one or two people ever called me that, hate them

I'm pretty sure my last primary school teacher liked to call me idiot in her head. I returned the favor and called her ***** in mine.

Do the soft, slow sobbings of a broken man crying himself to sleep every night as he contemplates his meager existence and the emptiness that will never be filled, coming to terms with the fact that nobody ever has nor ever will love him count?

No?

I guess Pumpkin is pretty good.

Had to put other because I don't have pet names for anyone. In fact, I intend to refer to any pets I end up owning by their species name. But, every girlfriend I've had has called me Jer-Bear.

I did when I had a girlfriend. I called her my fox, because she had auburn hair and she was cuddly like a fox. She loved it.

In general, I call most of my male friends Pal-y or buddy and my female friends Sister.
The last time I was flirty I discovered Princess and Cupcake were go-to calls for me, she thought it was adorable.
Funny story, I wasn't actually trying with the cute names *puts on sunglasses, straightens tie* I just wanted to say them for some reason, you know, it just flowed. But because it was the first time I'd really been flirty, I wanted to know whether or not these names worked in general or just her so I tried them out with another female friend, not romantic interest but she was cute, and she also responded positively.
Yeah, I effin' test-flirted just to test the waters of my charisma, I'm a classy freaking guy.
Anyway.
I haven't used pet-names in a while. I don't want to use them on purpose, I want to say them kind of instinctively, you know, real natural-like. So if I find myself calling a girl Cupcake again, man the life-boats, I might be falling for her.

I used to, but I stopped. Basically when she was in a good mood she loved any name I could think of, but when she was in a bad mood she hated everything and thought I was being childish for calling her 'lamb' and 'babe'. So I played it safe and just went with her name all the time.

Ladies, never, even in anger, tell a guy you hate pet names. We don't forget. We forgive, but we'll never call you that again.

Oh if we are going with french then

" ma Puce" is by far the worst. It's either lice or chip. I'm not sure which one yet.

Ones I've used on others:
- Kitten
- Prickles
- Wasp (it suited her, trust me)
- Tulip (I was quite proud of that one. Sadly, she hated it. I could only get away with it when she was in the best of moods.)
- Variations on "sweet". Sweetness, sweet thing, my sweet, etc etc

Ones I've had applied to me in the past:
- Honey
- Teddy
- Wombat (apparently I in some way resemble one of these [http://www.google.com.au/search?q=wombat&hl=en-AU&gbv=2&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=8yEVVO_TDsrIuASK_IH4Dg&ved=0CAUQ_AU])
- Spoon
- The Well of Silence (I'm pretty sure she got this from a book. Obviously it's too clumsy for everyday use, she just used it occasionally as a gentle way of telling me when I was being an uncommunicative prick.)

I call my girlfriend Lady Legs. Also Lady Panda or just Panda (her default player name). Lady Bits when I'm being facetious, which is often enough.

I call my girlfriend Ham. Her user name online is "Hamboo" and I loved it so much, I shortened it, and it just sort of stuck between us. Why I don't just call her "Hamboo"... I don't know. Ham just seems to roll off the tongue more, sounds both casual and heartfelt, and all I can think of is this Hamm when I refer to her as Ham which makes me giggle inside:

Prior to Ham, she used to have long hair dyed red and grew really fond of when I called her "my Little Mermaid". A name short lived by a haircut unfortunately.

As for what she calls me, it literally varies on what we're up to... one day it's "Yu", next is "Love", then suddenly it's "Dio".
My pet name is a sentence I can agree with.

Nothing seems right, I've just ended up calling her lovey. Only when she's sad or needs a hug though, otherwise just use her name. It's weird, over a year now and we've called each other's name to get their attention like three times each. I guess when I need her attention she's usually within poking or 'hey, look at this' distance.

Yeah... I'm not sure if I should like or dislike pet names yet, but I still find it weird to get them from your so-called "friends"... especially that last one...

Oh Jaysus, I have so many XD

My Lovely, Sweetheart, Precious, Darling, Baby, all the general ones really. When I'm taking the piss I'll say her last name, i.e., "Get your shit together [last name here], Gawd".

I've tried nicknames with her.

She doesn't like them T^T

One day, one day I shall find something.
