Everyone on the escapist has watched at least one of his reviews, where he talks fast and points out all the faults in a game. But do his reviews influence the likelihood that you will buy any given game? Personally, I watch them for fun and if I want reviews I look to other sources.

I take any review with a grain of salt because it is simply someone else's opinion on the game. It may or may not be close to how I feel about it. ZP has a very cynical and satirical approach of reviewing games, and so, if you keep that in mind while watching, you can take it seriously. Just remember what kind of opinion the person has when watching the review.

If his criticisms are aspects that annoy me, I pay attention. Mostly I watch for the lols though.

As long as you keep in mind that he tends to point out the negative aspects of a game and that everything he doesn´t mention is probably alright (as he said in one episode), it can be taken as seriously as any other review. Of course every review is an opinion and things like genre preferences should always factor into how strongly you´re influenced by one.

If he likes something, I'll probably go out of my way to check it out because I know he knows quality. If he doesn't, I'll take his reasons under advisement same as any other source, but remember that it's just one guy's opinion and mine doesn't always match.

I watch them more for entertainment than information.

I take Yahtzee's reviews with a minimal crum of a grain of overly cynical salt. In other words, he has a minuscule point about the games that I pay minuscule attention to. But yeah, I watch them for entertainment value.

Yahtzee is pure entertainment to me. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well, okay, his gripes can be petty sometimes, but hey, whatever makes the people laugh, right?

His reviews are an excellent source of information because he talks about features and issues with the game that I actually care about (as opposed to things like "graphics" and "sound" which are really silly categories cause I don't much care about them - others might, but I don't).

However, while I listen to what he has to say about a game, I don't necessarily listen to his overall opinion.

In fact, I've often purchased games BECAUSE he hated them - or, rather, because he hated them for a very specific reason.

I've purchased other games that he loved (Saint's Row 2, Just Cause 2) - again, because he loved them for very specific reasons.

And that's why I actually make purchasing decisions based on ZP - because he is specific about exactly why he likes (or more often, dislikes) a game. And that specific information is what I need to make my game purchasing choices.

Really? Another "Do you like Yatzee/think Yatzee is a good reviewer" thread? These seem to pop up more than My Little Pony threads...

He's entertainment to me. His bar for quality in a game is like super high, and he nitpicks the shit out of games. But his reviews are still pretty insightful and i will always love his ever creative similes.

If anyone took Yahtzee's reviews completely seriously, then they would be playing very few games.

Why is there no "Sometimes" option. I mean, its fairly easy to tell if he genuinely hates a game or whether he is just railing on the bad parts for laughs. Basically if he cant bring himself to review it badly then that means the game is good (happens rarely, at all other times find a real reviewer.

Well, he said it himself he doesn't consider his reviews as material to decide on shopping. I take it at his opinion, but his criticism is mostly spot on. Many times I think he wasn't harsh enough on a game, but it's all a matter of personal preference.

I take them seriously. I watch them for entertainment, but if he likes a game that generally means it can hold itself up in a fight.

Although I always check wiki too, as it lists all the site ratings and links to the reviews where I can check in further detail.

No, in my opinion he's here to entertain us and not to be taken seriously. Even if he does sometimes make good points.

Also this thread has now been done almost as much as zombie apocalypse threads.

I do listen to them because it always shows the worst of a game. If they are areas I can overlook or don't apply to me then I will overlook and possibly buy it. It gives me the areas I can be expected to be disappointed in. And then on the rare occasion he finds it hard to criticize a game, I do buy it e.g. Just Cause 2, Batman Arkham Asylum.
