Poll: Do you think having a Mail Order Bride is creepy?

So I was on youtube and I came across one of those videos dedicated to a couple, both people were 23 years old. They guys is white, and the girl is Filipino. Apparently he went over to the Philippines to see her, and they both seem happy. She is pretty and he is athletics and is handsome. However in the comments I see that there are people stating how "lucky" he is to be with a Filipino women because of how lacking "western women" are. They state how they too found "love" by meeting women over the internet. However when I click on their channel I see that the majority of them are white men in their late 40's with women that are around 24 years old. They say that they meet through some Filipino dating site. To me, this seems really creepy/robbing the cradle. What about you escapist, is it weird for white men to go after women in Asian countries that are half their age because "western women are fat/ugly/bitchy/[insert generalization about women here]"? I typed to a man that was 53 who was married to a women that was 21 and he didn't get why people would find that weird.

By the way, I have nothing against interracial marriage or relationships like the one in the video I came across because both people were similar in age.

TLR Old white men hate "western women" for reasons x,y,&z, so they go after women in Asian countries that are half their age because they think the women are "submissive". Is that creepy?

I think that is creepy, and it's usually just that western women won't put up with their crap. Funny part is it seems that those asian mail order brides are bigger gold diggers that western girls.

Funny story, my mother's friend gets one and she hardly speaks English. Anyway he has an infarction (heart attack), so she of course jumps into action to call 911 grab a pencil and a notepad and scream "Will! Will!" at him while he calls 911 himself >_<

I think it's a bit creepy and desparate. But eh, people can do what they want.
I actually live near a black guy (who is no longer our friend, he decided to fall out with all the neighbours over something stupid and went to everyone's house shouting at us) and he has a mail order bride. She's REALLY ugly though... I always thought they were supposed to be attractive, I heard sometimes the woman on the site is not the woman you get. She's Thai I believe, I think he's reaching 60 and she's I'd say about...34?
I suppose that's not too bad, but I don't see what's so hard about leaving the house and meeting someone.

After watching the Louis Theroux episode about Thai mail-order brides, I have to answer with a resounding YES! It is creepy as fuck, all the old guys that go over there are just so lecherous. I can understand why some men would go over there, looking for companionship and all, but there's no need to be such a creep about it.

Age difference really isn't a big deal. It's more about power/responsibility/maturity/capability differences.

So long as the relationship is genuine I see nothing wrong with it. I can even understand the desire to find someone in another country. Perhaps they find certain cultures particularly fascinating or attractive.

This is a little off subject, but I actually knew 3 people who married mail ordered brides, though it was a little more complex than that. Basically, oldest brother of 3 married a mail order bride, and they arranged the marriage of her two younger sisters to his two younger brothers. They were very nice people, but it was a little strange. The youngest couple couldn't even speak a common language fluently back when I knew them, but they were very happy together.


All the marriages were age appropriate (I think the largest gap was 3 years) and all involved seemed very happy with the arrangement. It wasn't at all creepy, just different. And that isn't really a bad thing.

Your story is pretty creepy though.

See, funny thing, I was in kind of the opposite situation for a while. I'm British, and from the ages of 18-23, I was in a relationship with a 40-something Thai woman. She's quite wealthy, family owns a huge business, and I was a penniless student. She'd keep paying for me to come out to hang around in her chalet in Pattuya, and frankly, she's a delightful person with whom I got along very well. She tells me she likes having me around, because it makes her feel younger!

Didn't get sold to her on the internet through a website though. We met in a hostel in Tokyo. Moral of the story - it works both ways, and it's not always evil sickening exploitation of poor delicate innocents.
