I'm having a bit of an arguement with my wife as to whether it's just Canadians that crumble saltine crackers in soup or if it's a North American thing. As she is a Kiwi and they don't do the cracker thing down there it's causes a few heated discussions while eating in restaurants.

Granted I don't eat/crumble crackers with every soup meal but there are some times when the soup is a little watery that I do it.

You forgot the "let them float in the soup" option. How could you forget that?

They used to give us crackers to go with tomato soup in elementary school in Minnesota. We would crumble them into pieces while they were in the wrapper and then open it over the soup. :3

Every now and again I do it, especially if I'm in a restaurant. Crackers are really good in soup though, so maybe I ought to eat crackers in my soup more often.

If I happen to have crackers at the time, then I'll dip them in. Otherwise, no, and it isn't really the norm, as far as I know. >_>

I LOVE eating partly crumbled (in halves or quarters) Premium Plus crackers with Lipton noodle soup the most, I've done it with a few other soups too but Lipton Noodle works best.

"Do you use crackers when eating soup?" I'm not sure how I would use them other than eat them... =P

OT: Depends on the soup. I don't eat soup that often but I may crumble or place my crackers in it to soak up some of the soup. Saltine crackers go well with chicken noodle soup.

I used to crumble them up like most people... now I just leave them untouched. Crackers are no longer my thing. Bleached wheat has no redeeming qualities.

Other: I use the crackers to scoop out solid bits. Like the corn pieces in corn chowder, or the steak from chili.

I don't like noodle soups (unless I'm sick), and I don't eat crackers with broth-only soups (like tomato soup), in case you were wondering what I did in those situations.

Can't say that I do. I usually just want to eat the soup. Then again I rarely eat soup. If I have crackers I usually just eat them on the side. I know I am boring.

Crackers in soup sounds rather strange to me, I've never heard of anyone doing that here (I'm Australian, BTW). Buttered toast or bread, on the other hand, is always available for dipping in soup, it's pretty common even in restaurants. I don't think I'd like crackers very much, I prefer bread.

As another Kiwi, I can confirm that we don't do the cracker crumbling thing. Although we have been known to eat soup with bread...

Actually, we're probably more famous for forgoing the liquid soup and bread-product routine entirely, and heading off to look for a can of reduced cream and a bag of chips...
Kiwis will know what I'm talking about ;-)
