Depends on the game, usually in games like the Elder Scrolls series I like the hybrids. Nightblade is probably my favorite type of char, sneaky with some nasty magic tricks and some direct combat ability. If I am railroaded I usually go rogue.

For some reason magic really doesn't agree with me. I've always preferred to either be a big brute going around punching stuff or skulking through the shadows and making stealthy kills.

I like healing classes, like Priest/Shaman, bestest. So pfththth to your poll!

It irks me slightly when there are no healing classes, or healing classes are relegated to some bastard spec of mages. Mages are strictly elemental pew pew IMO, healers deserve their own class.
I count those as mages. A mage is a person with magical abilities. That is it. Shammies are elemental pew pew pew.

Usually rogue, though if the game doesn't supply some sort of gadgetry I"ll often pick up some magic.

If it wants to be an outright annoyance and be silly (Skyrim! with its goofy stealth that is osmehwo negaged without actually having to sneak) I'll go warrior, though usually still some lighter mobile form.

Something between mage and warrior, if the magic isn't boring and there's an option to mix. Expend mana in the form of fire, lightning, and exploding heads, then hit whatever's left with a big stick. I'll typically hold off on rogue altogether until I've gotten bored crushing bones and disintegrating things because I find stealth rarely seems to work well if it's not in a stealth-based game. Or maybe this is extended frustration with the Cyrodill police department always knowing exactly what I was up to all the time.

I personally prefer a rogue warrior, but if forced to pick a rogue is the direction for me. The reason behind being a rogue warrior isn't because I like to sneak, but is because my computer can't handle anything fast-paced. Good thing i'm getting myself a new one for christmas...

Rogue. Nothing more satisfying than picking off the enemy forces one by one while the others scare themselves shitless. Or alternatively I let all the brutes deal with the attacking while I sit back, watch the show and snipe the stragglers

I'm going to cast my vote for mage.

I hardly ever do a straight warrior; I always have some sort of supplemental subversion to the "bash your head in" stereotype associated with the physical specialists. Said supplement is usually arcane in nature (take Skyrim, where I dabble in Restoration and Enchanting to pair with One-handed and Heavy Armor). Or I'll be a mage outright when it's convenient. Nothing is more satisfying than felling an opponent before either party gets a chance to use traditional physical combat.

I'll typically go mage.

I like doing elemental damage, and firing lightning and stuff from my hands. ;)

When possible, I like to hybrid it with other classes. I don't really like being super squishy.

If the magic sucks in the game, or I'm waaaaay too dependent on limited mana, I will usually go for a DPS archer (like in Ragnarok online)

Mostly rogue, but it depends on the game's mechanics.

If the stealth/finesse sucks then I'll play warrior. Brute force can be fun too.

I basically never play mage. It always sucks. The magic is never interesting and you usually end up standing around waiting for spells to go off or for cooldowns/mana to regenerate.

Come to think of it, I'd like to see a game that focuses on playing just as a magic user and actually gets it right.
Well...The mage in Dungeon Defenders (beat-em-up action RPG mixed with tower defense) has a mage class that can (if specced for DPS and not towers), fire rapidfire magic missiles (with MULTIPLE projectiles if you have the right weapon), a powerful charge shot (with the right weapons and upgrade can charge in 2-3 seconds), and a rapidly charging "YOU SHALL NOT PASS" style staff slam that blasts everything around him away, and finally a powerful AOE (huge radius) attack bust that sends everything around him flying. ;)
