The first one was a little kiddie if you ask me. what with the lack of semi-automatic weapons and gunmetal gray backgrounds. Also, you never had to kill anything other than the dark creatures and a psychopath. I think it would just about qualify, it is dancing the line though.SithLibrarian said:

To clarify. The only properly kiddie games I have played have been Pokemon Blue and Bugs Bunny: Adventures in Time or something like that.
While simplistic, both of them still stand up quite nicely for me today.

Wow, I seriously thought I was the only person who played that game. Thanks for reminding me of that, it was such a fun game. Except since I was a little kid when I played I got so confused at some of the puzzles. I wish I could play it again and see if it got any easier or if i'm just terrible at solving puzzles.Armored Prayer said:

Games don't need the straight up blood/guts like the generic space marine fps to be considered awesome. "Kiddy game" can be loosely defined as a game that takes a more humorous approach to game play and is not down to earth and gritty. I laugh though when I see Banjo Kazooie used as a example of a "kiddy game", if you look at the dialogue used, it is full of lude British puns.
hmmm....does Harvest Moon anything count? it's a farming/dating Sim, yeah, but c'mon the chibis everywhere? the fact that you can't slaughter the cows or chickens for meat or eat anything that was once alive but fish and eggs?? That is cuddly fun right there.
hmm, also, I do enjoy both Viva Pinata games...Pokemon...Zelda - especially Windwaker, it was so damn cute :3

Depends. I still play and love Pokemon and that's considered a kiddie game by some. Most of the time, kiddie games are like kiddie movies where they don't care about the content and just try to market it towards kids and forget about the quality. So not always, but most of the time.
I would say usually. There are E-rated games that are interesting and not shallow, but most "kiddie" games are just based or ripped off of existing material and done poorly.
And this is precisely why games with a easygoing, child like aesthetic don't sell. "Naw, that game looks kiddy, so I'm sure it's shit". Look at Little King's Story, Viva Piñata, Scribblenauts, Ratchet and Clank, Mario, and so on.
