I'm just wondering if any of the Escapist readers play these 'social' MMOs like:

YoVille
Habbo Hotel
Pet Society
Second Life

If you do why? If you don't why not?

I play nicky nock on the old man who lives down the road. I only play it with my mates 'cos' i souldn't do it without peer pressure.

It's MASSIVE fun. (And I think he likes it.)

No, because I have a social life in real life. I have real sex, get drunk for real, dance for real, party for real, and all of that. If I want to play a game it generally has NOTHING to do with what real life is like on any level. Like playing Dead Space.

I fired up PS Home for a bit. That probably counts as a social MMO for lack of anything else to do and only if you count social as a pack of 15 year olds standing on any female avatars they can find sitting down, screaming "OMG COOL BJ!!!" , then running off when said female character says something to them.

Nope. Just no interest. I've never even HEARD of those things besides Second Life.

Slightly on topic, I think everyone here should read Snow Crash. He (Neal Stephenson) essentially invented second life 10 years before it existed, and in VR form.

I only ever played Habbo because one week I got a bit bored and decided to get some credits I bought a few cant remember how many,
I log in and what message do I get?? You have 500 credits remaining, THAT is why I played it for a short amount of time.
