I am tempted to start an "Elite Escapians" clan of some sort, anyone who has 1000+ posts and is considered a respected member is allowed to join in :D
If I submit my application now, and pay the cover charge, can I get in later no questions asked?
Applications (personality) are very strict and must be well written (respect from fellow Escapians). If you survive a few months with a reasonable post count, you could be accepted.
Survival is no simple matter. We have a guard dog worse than Cerberus - he has seven heads. We don't even know why, or where he comes from. We just know that he has one for every day of the week.

I respect people like Alex_P and Kikosemmek more than a lot of the "veterans". I don't care much for post counts or join dates. You're only interesting if you say something smart.

That's not really what the question was, though. I think people are treated differently depending on their post count, but not to a massive degree.

Did anyone else notice there's not much of a difference between "Hardly", "Slightly" and "Not Really"?
Ah, so you noticed. That's why you are respected here.

To me, they are different. That's probably just something I subconciously picked up from somewhere. You could look at it as if it were a pseudo '1-4' scale, with 1 being 'Highly' and it having the most effect, and 4 being 'Hardly', with the least effect.

Not really.

And to avoid straying too far off topic.
One thing I find is universal is that it's really hard to find a forum that doesn't lean some favoritism toward those who've been around longer. Not to say there's anything wrong with the newbies, but it's a lot easier to feel comfortable around people you've known longer rather than those you haven't.

So in that sense, I don't think you can have a forum without some favoritism toward post count. (Unless you're brand new or on one of the *chans, but discussion is hardly a concept on those forums.)

On those boards, the only difference is whether you are called an 'oldfag' or a 'newfag'. Which is hardly the most mature approach.

Despite the fact of favouritism, I have to admit that some new guys surprise me. You, for one, pleasantly surprised me quite a lot when I saw that you had a low post count. 'Budding talent', I believe they call it.

Appreciate the compliment, although I don't particularly feel I deserve it.

Also, that's likely the reason we don't talk about the chans in polite company.

You've shown that you can make intelligent posts, and also have a sense of humour. That gets you more respect than a high post count often will.

Thank you. Although, I've been doing a lot of "spamming," normally I'm at a forum three times longer before I even get a post count that's half of this number here, though.

Ok, I'll stop now.

It's from my very first DnD character: Andromedy Larenxis, the perky halfling bard. I should've gone with Andromedy I guess.

Also, it is round as far as we're concerned, and the earth is at the center of it, as we can only perceive a certain time away as the light travels towards us.
Ah, now I remember you saying that!

As for the universe debat. Nuh-ah! The earth is stuated on giant elephants standing on a giant turtle.

Vote: Not Really
Reason:

To be completely honest, I had the strange feeling that showing up out of no where would elicit a "Who the hell is that dude?" response, but people've been generally nice to me, and several treated me as if I was some old friend, string jokes along with me and generally carrying on having a good time.

I like the people around here, and even though I have a whole 100-or-so posts, they seem to like me back, so aside from a bit of "Hey, I know this guy" treatment others get that I don't, there's no real "He's a vet, screw off newbie" vibe going on here.
Agreed. I've only been a member here for about a month or so, and my post-count reflects that I basically don't have much to do at night except make witty comments on the internet. People seem to dig me here regardless of my experience, so I'm down with it. I put hardly, though, because I think in order to be here long enough to "Go Gonzo" you have to be an atleast competent poster and individual without getting banned before hand.

I would say "slightly". I won't pick a fight with someone who has like 2,000+ posts haha.

I've just come to notice the distinct lack of my name in this thread despite several people who are self-proclaimed friends of mine. Therefore, I say "Screw all of you".

It's probably important to note that before coming to the Escapist I was a member at another anime-focused message board called Otakuboards (stemming from The Otaku webiste, like The Escapist is to our message boards). I was active on there for something like five years since I was 13, and so my experience on internet forums is pretty deep compared to the average new guy. I guess that contributes to my being treated well, as I don't (and didn't) act like a "n00b" (though I did long ago as a naive 13 year old on the internet) when I first joined.

Of course it's not relevant. If it was, I could enter a topic and have everyone bow down to me. As it is, I have to be intelligent and well spoken. Thebobmaster uses Post Count! It is ineffective!

Thebobmaster has over 5000 posts and a Keanu Reeves badge. Seriously, how is that worth a badge? Now you have Reeves following you everywhere.
