With the Veyron they don't insure you for the year, they insure you according to how many miles you've clocked on the engine, so 10 miles is 100 smackers.RAKtheUndead said:It's alarming to see how much they do charge for various cars for 17-year-old drivers, though; usually more than the car is worth. I'd hate to see an insurance quote for a 17-year-old driving a Bugatti Veyron. On the other hand, I was eighteen when I got my car, a 1997 Volkswagen Golf Mk3 with a 1.4L engine, and while it cost a lot, it wasn't more than the car was worth.

Car to insure - Ferrari 360 Spider
Excess - £300
Fully Comp Quote (ERS Insurance) - £9999.00
That isn't actually as bad as I thought......I'm sure I could take a bit more off by upping the excess to £1500!
Insurers write that amount off, kind of offsetting it against the financial rape of all their other customers.fix-the-spade said:Pff, try insuring Bicycles, now that's odd.Private Custard said:It just seems a bit wierd that a 170mph missile worth four of my cars is cheaper to insure. Maybe bikes are the way forward, I seem to remember years ago it being a complete nightmare to insure them.
I have two good mountain bikes, both worth (a lot) more than my car. I ride them 'enthusiastically'. Insuring both against theft and damage, including damage while riding, is about £300 a year.
Last year (and the year before that) I got through more than £300 worth of parts. In fact last year after I added up all the chains, wheels, tyres and other parts that I'd broken it came to nearly three times that amount. Of that amount most was claimed on insurance and...
... my premium has stayed the same. My mind boggles on the economics, it must be a tax dodge on the insurers part or something.
Well I live in one the quietest streets in Arbroath, which is 60% council houses. I'm not in a council house mind (thank god, I would be surrounded by chavs if I was) and it is a neighbourhood watch area if that matters...KaiRai said:Private Custard said:Well I couldn't find anyone who would insure a Veyron, so I tried something else.RAKtheUndead said:I'd hate to see an insurance quote for a 17-year-old driving a Bugatti Veyron.

Please tell me where you got that insured!!
Also to the OP, where you live can affect your price too. My mate lives in Dorrige (Posh boys area, VERY posh, houses of £350k + ) and I live in Yardley Wood (Total shithole. Mostly full of council houses, but some bought in the region of £120k) and to insure a 1.1 fiat cinqucento sporting it cost him £1150 to insure full comp, and cost me £1900, same car, same company. It's really dependent on where you live, gender and age.
But to answer the original question? Totally extortionate.

That's the thing, they don't look into people in your area. Just the houses there. It's ridiculous, having more money means you get cheaper insurance and living in a less well off area means more expensive insurance. How the fuck do they work it out!?Insomniac Gamer said:Well I live in one the quietest streets in Arbroath, which is 60% council houses. Yeah I've been able to drive since my dad showed me what to do and let my go around the cul-de-sac back when I was 13. Found it quite easy but reverse parking was a nightmare. I'm not allowed to get a provisional and "start" learning until I'm 17 so that's a year and a month away. By then my dad will probably have enough no claims to make it reasonable if I go on his insurance. Which I will...traukanshaku said:Insurance is a giant scam and a travesty. My parents technically own my car so I get a huge break on it, it would more than quadruple if I were the primary driver.
I've been driving since I was 15, and I'm 22, I've never had an accident, not even a minor one. Never been pulled over by a cop. In fact, I've never had a run in with police, ever. And yet I'd still have to sell a kidney or two to get insured for a year on a Mazda 626, hardly a beast of a car.
this is why I'm buying a motorcycle. Insurance companies can die in a fire.
Geez kinda sureal to hear 1.6L a "big" car. I think my lawnmower is almost that big. I drive a "little" 3.0L V6.coxafloppin said:Dude 1.6 is kinda big for a first car,

Yeah, it's kinda weird hearing about engine size across the pond. My weedwhacker is probably bigger than 1.0L.sneakypenguin said:Geez kinda sureal to hear 1.6L a "big" car. I think my lawnmower is almost that big. I drive a "little" 3.0L V6.coxafloppin said:Dude 1.6 is kinda big for a first car,

I never really understood why women get charged so much less. If i'm not mistaken the have achieved the same accident rates as males. Though I shouldn't complain I pay 35 bucks a month.
Eh, not quite we had a suburban for towing the camper with the 6 of us, then a dodge truck for work/play. So they still have their uses, that said I love coopers *lets motor*traukanshaku said:Yeah, it's kinda weird hearing about engine size across the pond. That being said, the SUVs and other giant unnecessary crap-haulers over here in the States need to go the way of the dodo. I want a Mini.
I apologize, I should have added qualifying statements. For work purposes or if you actually have something you need to tow or haul, then that's okay.sneakypenguin said:Eh, not quite we had a suburban for towing the camper with the 6 of us, then a dodge truck for work/play.
