Poll: Fallout 1 or 2?

Well I'd recommend starting with Fallout 1 so you get some of the backstory, they're both similar gameplay wise, it's just Fallout 2 was much bigger and expanded a lot.
Personally I don't like the top-down gameplay style. I wouldn't say they suck but I don't like them. Just not my style I guess.
Fallout 1 is better for the whole story and starts the "Fallout Universe." Fallout 2 is better for an open world experience where you can do your own thing and never even feel the need to play the main story. Fallout 1 has the story kind of looming over your head the whole time, where side quests are fun, but you know if you don't complete it bad things will happen. I would suggest playing both (1 then 2)as you wont notice too much difference in graphics and play style.
Fallout 2 was an 'upgrade' of fallout 1 in some ways. The way you could interact with your fellow NPC's for example. But I would recommend you to start with fallout 1 and then play 2. Besides, what is more fun than to know the whole background story of these games?

Play FO1 with cheats to get the story (or try and find sometime on youtube so you can watch it all) and then play FO2 for everything else.
Don't forget about Fallout Tactics.
1, definitely- it's a better starting point both chronologically and difficulty-wise; those games have a pretty steep learning curve, and 2 is just huge and complex compared to 1. But that's my somewhat biased personal opinion, since Fallout 1 is one of my fav games ever...
Oh, and whoever voted that they both suck must either:
A. Be really ignorant
B. Be too dumb/lazy to play a classic CRPG (Lets face it, those games were both more difficult story- and combat-wise by miles)
C. Have a legitimate excuse such as Fallen-Angel, in which case i completely understand.

Yeah. They were made by BlackIsle. Anyway... it's hard to decide, but i would say Fallout2. It's bigger, but it does have some flaws.ZephrC said:

Hmmm, now that i think about it, i haven't played either one, in a while. Maybe it's time to search them out and play them again.
Woops my bad, still relevant, I didn't like any of Bethesda's early work, I thought fallout 1 and 2 was included in that because of fallout 3. huh, learn something new every day

Fallout 1, while Fallout 2 is great fun and a heck of a lot bigger.. I just seem to be drawn back to Fallout 1 over and over and over again. Either way play both, and tactics..oh god yes play tactics. :3
