another option is just saying bugger it and going exploring. The first time i played it i just followed the points of interest markers around the map for a while. That way you can build up supplies like stimpacks and ammo and find all those interesting things that are scattered around the world.
I spent about the first ten hours wandering with no ammo and no money. And I LOVED IT. Try starting again, but accept the quests they give you. They're generally useful starting points...

Also, have at least three save points BEFORE YOU EXIT THE VAULT, because should you feel the need to restart, you can load one of those saves and completely remake your character when exiting the vault (and not have to go through childhood).
Fallout is a kind of tinker-around, trial-and-error game. I had to restart a couple of times because I got myself in your exact situation or couldn't get a quest to go in the direction I wanted.

Naaah, just kidding, you'd be amazed how many people i've met who have trouble starting out in F3, a friend of mine actually wanted to thank the raider's after they 'saved' him, and was confused when they attacked him.
Anyway to me it seems like your playing Fallout like an FPS, and not an RPG (Although, this is just speculation, feel free to prove men wrong), the best suggestion i can give you without spoiling too much is to talk to everybody, esspecially the folks like Mr.Burke and Lucas Simms.
Also, if your really stuck, simply look up a good walkthrough on the vault.

You are doing something wrong. Scavenge a little more and do some quests. Honestly, I almost gave up in the beginning because of this. I would recommend doing the quest where you have to deliver a message to this girl's family. It will get you lots of money, it's pretty easy, and it's how I found my hunting rifle and then the game actually started. It takes a while to get into, but once you get the weapons it's a whole lot of fun.
I don't get the "Don't shoot the people who sell you stuff" I started my most recent Fallout save by disarming the bomb to get the house and then murdering everyone in Megaton (Actually I did Colins stuff first) by the time I was done I had tonnes of cash, stimpacks and ammo. Evil is the easiest way to play.

It's very hard to have fun in Fallout 3 in the beginning, when your struggle is finished you'll have lots of fun, other than that the post above is true. And it's not all dead-end subways, you took a wrong turn somewhere.starfox444 said:

I had the same problem in Oblivion; the tutorial sets the scene and holds your hand then promptly chucks you out of the door and tells you to get bent; the openness of the game world can be a little intimidating but once you start chatting to the NPC's and find some quests it sorts itself out.
Ammo wise, you shouldn't ever really struggle for ammo, you can find it just about everywhere; just find some raiders, they don't put up much of a fight (unless one of them happens to be carrying the Firelance...).

killing everybody is fun but sometimes its not the best idea.
fallout 3 requires a certain ammount of patience to enjoy. if you have some, give it another try. if you dont, then dont play it.

one piece of advice i can share that definitely helped me.
make about 3 different save files for the same character and save semi-often.
that way you can rotate your saves, and if you fuck up you can always load up a previous save you didn't overwrite.
that is the single most useful thing you can do in fallout and oblivion alike.

Yes, wrong. Do you test your sword on the blacksmith in DO:A to see if it's sharp? No. So you don't fire your gun at the storekeeper. Besides, it has an ammo indicator in the game, check that instead of wasting it.Lineoutt said:
Advice: Restart, pick small guns, lockpick, and repair as main skills. Don't dive into main quest, it's optinal for now. Go out into wasteland, do what you want, go where you want. This isn't nearly as restrictive as ME or DO:A so just go out and explore and don't go on the set path for the plot just because you feel you have to. You miss 90% of the game then.
