In games which do you prefer, if you had to pick: Fast-paced, CoD style, or turn-based games that you can take at your own speed? I know you can't compare CoD and Civ, but which do you prefer in terms of pace?

I prefer faster games, but my cousin can sit for hours and hours on Total War...which I just cannot.

Sometimes I prefer fast paced, like CS Gun Game, other times I like to take my time, like AoE: AoK.
Depends on my mood really.

I prefer games where I can choose my own pace. I HATE timed sections. I like to take my time and check everywhere, no need to rush in.

It really depends on the game. Though I am growing a bit tired of the fast paced shooter. It'd be nice if there were more shooters where the pacing is more diverse, like in Half-life 2.

What this guy said :p
It's better to have fast paced like CoD, but not have a timer so you can make the most of it.

I should have added that I like the fast paced games, so long as there is the option to go slowly.

Basically this. I like fast games like Painkiller, but only if there is no forced time limit. That just pisses me off.

I like stealth games, which are usually pretty slow, since you have to plan each move carefully if you want to stay undetected.

This reminds me of those 4 hour endurance races in Gran Turismo 2, the most boring idea in the history of games.

Depends quite a lot on the game I'm playing. for an RPG, RTS or even Turn-based Strategy I prefer a slower pace, allowing me to think things through, but also to allow the story to unfold (in the case of the RPGs, strategy games tend to be light on story).

At other times I prefer a bit more pace, Mass Effect for instance has a very nice balance with slower paced RPG bits and faster paced action segments. But I'm not a shooter person, so the fast paced action that comes with that isn't really my thing.

I like a mix. Like Mass Effect which has the fast paced action and slower dialogue parts. Or Grand Theft Auto where I can speed through the story or take my time and mess about.

I like a bit of both. Some days I love sitting for hours carefully planning my next steps in a Total War game, and some days I just want to get right into the action.

Hmm... that's quite a tough one. really, when the mood takes me, i like either. one day i might be up for some frantic violence, other days i'd prefer to use my brain.

I like both, but I can't get lost in faster-paced games like CoD like I do in slower paced games like Total War. I can sit down for a game of Total War then suddenly realise i haven't used the bathroom or eaten anything for six hours.
