My favourite is a unique model.
Biwwy's Wazer Wifle is my weapon of choice, super accurate, high rate of fire and people in Power Armour and Super Mutants are susceptible to it.

Small guns most definitely. Xuanlong assault rifle, Lincoln's Repeater, Ol' Painless, Reservist Rifle, Terrible Shotgun and just the plain old hunting rifle. Never leave home without them. The most useful weapons for the greater part of the game.
I have energy weapons maxed out, but lately I've gotten bored of completely destroying everything with no problems using the alien weapons from Mothership Zeta. So I started using small guns like the assault rifle and the .44 mag. to give me more of a challenge.

At first I used the hunting rifle all the time, but then the "Point lookout" DLC came out and the lever-action rifle took that spot, 10mm pistol ammo but does more damage.
Also, lever-action is FUCKING AWESOME.

I like Small Guns at the start of the game, then Energy Weapons later on, as I tend to hoarde ammo for it. It's amazing how much ammo you get when you aren't looking.
Small Guns, wha with the Hunting Rifle, Lincoln's Repeater and the Chinese Assault Rifle, but I also like Explosives. With plenty of skill points, those frag grenades become very, very lethal.

Seriously, though. I spent almost the entire game using small guns, with the occasional energy weapon, melee or explosive. I think I only used a big gun (minigun) once without reloading a previous save. They are the most fun to use, expecially the Experimental MIRV, but aren't very efficient compared to small guns.
