I'm not a huge sports person but rugby is probably my favourity to watch.

Our rugby teams have the sexiest men in Irish sport and our provincial and national teams are actually pretty good.

It's not on there, but rugby is a great sport. Shame it's not big in the USA. Anything that involves a bat is difficult for me, though cricket is decent. I guess it goes with the territory.(I'm British)

I like to play basketball but i don't watch profesional games. I watch local baseball games, national soccer games and box fights.

I don't enjoy any of the normal sports but I love Skiing. I don't even like watching sports, but then I don't like pretty much anything on TV.

Hockey, hands down. I'm Canadian, so that may explain why.

I root for all the Canadian teams in the NHL, but my favorite is Toronto.

Baseball is definitely my favorite sport, although I do watch just about everything else. But baseball was the only one I played for over a decade so it has a special place in my heart.

My all time favorite team is the Blue Jays, and my favorite player is Joe Carter because he won me two championships back to back. Sure it's all been downhill for my Jays since then, but we'll always have 1993!

As your poll suggests, just as research, Football, or in your case "soccer", is the most followed sport today, and also my choice.
There should be a "other" option according to me...

My Favorite team is Liverpool FC from the Barclays Premiere League and my reason is that when I was 10 my favorite player and biggest idol Sami Hyypiä (I'm a Finn) transfered to the club and had a very good coming 10 years there. There was also something about the Scous that kept me there. Now we're heading towards the league cup and that would make our manager the first ever to have won all English trohpies as a player and manager, which wouldn't be too shabby

Biggest name in Football history is a though one, the game changes every 8 years with new big names and styles of play. In their day Maradona and Pelé were the greates but in todays football no one knows how they would manage. Today great names are Messi, Ronaldo (Brazil, yeah he doesn't play anymore but I still count him for today), Ronaldhino, Gerrard, Hart etc... Sorry but I can't make up my mind.

Although "I don't much care for sports" is a far more accurate choice I did choose Hockey because it's pretty much the only team sport that I'm likely to watch and enjoy. Sure I make a habit of hanging out with friends on Sunday to watch Football but I tend to spend more of my time fucking around on my phone, helping out in the kitchen and drinking beer than actually watching the game.
Because I just want to hang out with my friends and I find Football to be boring as hell.

On the other hand 3 or four times out of the year a smaller group of friends and I will get together to watch a Hockey match and although I still spend a significant portion of that time drinking I do actually watch and enjoy the game.
Still I don't actually follow it as a sport, I don't know who the rising stars or who the big names are. I never bothered to learn about the various conferences or really when the season begins or ends.

My favorite sport is hockey. Its one of the fastest, roughest, and most entertaining sports, especially after they added a Shoot out so games dont end in a tie (Though those old games were fun to watch as well).

As to the best player, well thats a bit difficult. you cant say a forward is the greatest player when you have the discussions of Goalies. So I'll just go by position:

Forward: The Big man, Mario Lemieux, Ol' soixante-six. We havent seen a forward like him who could be physical yet graceful, and always able to score that goal when you need it. I believe that if he hadnt gotten cancer, and then his back problems, he would have outscored Gretzky. I mean, he has possible one of the HARDEST things to do in hockey named after him (the Lemieux Cycle, where you score an even strength, shorthanded, on the powerplay, through a penalty shot, and an empty netter) cause hes the only guy to ever have done it. he in my mind is better than Gretzky himself, and why his number isnt retired league wide with gretzky is just a crime in the sport of hockey.

Defenseman: I am gonna have to go with Bobby Orr. He redefined what it meant to be a defenseman, and pretty much made what it means to be an offensive defenseman. Another guy that should have his number retired throughout the whole league like Gretzky is again a crime.

Goalie: I am probably wrong on this, butin my mind, Martin Brodeur sticks out as the best goalie the game has had, or at least one of. statistically speaking, the guy is the best, and holds a few records/will hold a few by the time of his retirement. But hes one I believe one of only something like a dozen goalies (I tink its actually less, I know its beteewn half and a real full dozens worth) who has scored a goal as a goalie, and just if you watch him, despite being as old as he is, he still has it. and when he was young, my god. personally I'm hoping one day that marc-andre fleury can be the next brodeur (he's certainly on his way stats wise) and perhaps over take him, cause I think right now hes the best goalie in hockey for the future as well, but thats just me. till then, marty is the best.

I don't like just physically demanding sports though. I enjoy watching curling and that is one of the only olympic sports in the world where players can have a beer with them while they play!
I just like the things that I watch to be interesting, and the sports that I said that aren't interesting, really aren't.
I get the strategy in baseball, basketball and football, but it looks hilariously easy and even when I know what kind of play they should pull next, they don't. Football would be more interesting if there was more randomness and trying to out-play the other team, but every team uses the same set of plays with their own spin, it is so boring...
I don't watch rugby, I just like it more than american football, because after watching some rugby, I look at american football players and think of them all as overpaid pussies with big egos.

Edit: just gonna add that out of the physical combat sports, I like boxing a bit more than kickboxing. UFC is stupid imo. It doesn't matter how good you are at X if someone can get you in a position where you can't use your skill in X, and they dominate you with their skill in Y.
Unless they are Anderson Silva and he just makes you look like an idiot, that guy is a fucking robot.

Although I can't comment on most sports you talked about, since I don't watch them, saying football (soccer) is hilariously easy really surprised me. I've been playing it myself for several years and I can tell you it's far from easy. You have to realise that, when you're watching it on TV, you have a completely different view of the pitch than the players involved do. It's obviously easier for you to see where they should move the ball or where players should run, but you have to be quite a player to always see that option from a player's perspective. People like Xavi, Iniesta or Sneijder might see the best option for a through-pass most of the times, but most players aren't on that level.

In general, basic technique (passing, tackling, etc.) can be learned, but something like dribbling with the ball and still having a good sense of your surroundings is something that's really hard. Most players need their eye on the ball when they're dribbling, because of foot eye coordination. Picking out a pass (and the right one at that) under those circumstances tends to be too much for most people.

I'd have to say Rugby, even though it's not on the poll. It's one of the few sports that I enjoy to watch and play. I'll quite happily watch the games live and on tv.

I'm a Wales supporter though. I'm sorry. I'm not even from Wales, but a large portion of my family are, I've been raised on them. Nearly shed a tear at Shane Williams' final game.
