The short of it: Do you or have you ever flirted with a customer service person? Was it accidental? Did you feel bad? What came of it?

The long of it:
about 2 years ago i had a short stint working for a company that handled the calls related to Xbox. I essentially worked for Microsoft. Obviously, the majority of the calls were about the "Red Ring of Death" issue, or problems shockingly similar. A very minuscule by comparison second most occurring problem was internet connectivity.

I had a call with a woman, a woman who worked for Hasbro, who had been part of the Transformers movie crew. She had a problem with her internet. Wireless wouldn't connect. We talked for nearly two hours troubleshooting, and admittedly just flirting. It was shameful, even more so when we never found a solution. She gave me her gamer tag (The video game equivalent of a telephone number?) and then we hung up, as i was 30 minutes over my Off Hour.

Obviously, that went nowhere, and i was to ashamed of the whole trade off to even add her. Cuz really.... really?

2 years later, I'm on the other end. When I'm having trouble with my new Ipod Touch, i called Apple. I spoke to a woman who walked me through a factory reset, something i could have done on my own, but i was concerned about the money I'd spend on things, and didn't want to lose them without having the option to re purchase, hopefully without paying again. A factory reset takes about twenty minutes, and she said she would stay on the line and wait to make sure. We chatted about our customer service experience to pass the time, and yea i suppose there was flirting going on, but i was not conscious of it until my problem was fixed and she sounded a little strange and told me again her name was.... well actually i forget now.

Anyway... Im not sure how i feel about all that. Its nice, sure, to have someone anonymous you can just talk to, and if your calling a help hotline, you're doing it probably in your free time, with no one else around.

So I'll attach a poll for something I've just thought about. Is there something about a good solid customer service person that is inherently attractive? Do they fill a role that just so happens to be... sexy? Im not so sure I agree, but i do think it's an interesting idea.

What are your thought?

I've accidently added an extra POLL option. Ignore it?

No. Never and never.

I always use e-mail anyway, not as good for flirting.
I have to have a real person hearing my problem. I get pretty upset when a multi hundred dollar item doesnt work properly. I need another ear to hear my frustration, just so i feel better.

Eh.. I don't see how much of anything can come out of it. Seeing that 99% of customer service seems to reroute you to India.

Yeah I prefer the human touch to customer service. I hate those phone systems where a voice recording asks you to say your details, and it takes them incorrectly, and then the customer service rep has to take the correct details again. What's worse it's 10p/minute.

Yes, if it's over the phone I will if it gets me some sort of deal or makes the whole thing go more smoothly. But in person I will most deffinately if I find them attractive. I find that waitresses and bartenders are the most fun.

If I go to return an item, and the cashier girl is cute, I'll flirt a bit.

People who are paid to be nice are sexy? I don't know how that is sexy. I mean if they are being nice to you because of their job it is not really flirting and more like work.

God no, when I can barely understand the so called "customer service operator" or they start blatantly reading off a standard troubleshooting list they will get nothing but pure, seething rage.

meh i dont necessarily think theres something sexy about them, but i do tend to chat them up once i have what i need, partly because i dont meet many women and partly because im hoping that its making them uncomfortable on the other end of the line.

I find it really awkward and difficult when customer service people talk to me, so I've never flirted with one no. I just hate how you both know they don't give a fig about how things are with me and I don't give a fig about how things are with them. This isn't conducive to a good conversation. I'd sooner they just do what they're paid to do and serve me.

I clicked 'Yes Sometimes' but I think you've gotta have a basic spark or level of banter to work with. It really depends on the accent for me. I've flirted *heavily* with a woman from Ayrshire (I think) that I knew I would never meet. Her accent was just gorgeous, I couldn't resist.

I guess mostly It was to give my brain something to do during the heavily dull job (the reason I was ringing her) I was being forced to do at the time.

Also, if you can successfully flirt with someone you can often gain access to more useful information or perhaps get yourself a better deal or referred to the legendary 'techie department that knows all but is impossible to contact.

So yeah, Customer Services can be sexy... but it's often worth flirting with them regardless, I think.

I've done this a fair bit. A customer service interaction is totally artificial and filled with pretend niceness, so if you cut through the shit with some real niceness sometimes the girls appreciate it (and sometimes they don't). I've also been the customer service person myself and get flirted on by girls sometimes. Once I served a girl at a counter who was being very obviously flirtatious, so I got her address, went over to her place after work and started a relationship. That's rare though, more common is I see totally hot girls and I wish they would flirt sol I try and start up a conversation but they just keep their heads down, give me the money and leave. Oh well.
