Poll: Future FPSes

In all the sci-fi themed FPSes the aliens generally have fancy exotic weapons while humans have the general Assault rifle, shotgun, sniper and pistol. What do you generally use when given the choice?

Depends on the weapon... If a Needler is laying around than I'm using the damn needler. But normally some form of fast action weapon

OR whatever the equivalent of the sniper is

Whichever kills people the easiest/most efficiently. A little style never hurt, but it's not what I base my decision around.

Off Topic Edit: Isn't pluralizing genre acronyms a pain? Is it really FPSes, or is it FPSs or FPS's? I hate them so much.

I usually use the human weapons. However I gladly use alien weapons if the situation demands it.

It really depends on the game, halo I use both.

REALLY depends on the game. I have as much pride in the human race as the next guy, but if my choices are either a shotgun or disintegration ray, I know which one I'm gonna use.

It doesn't make a difference to me, but I always go for the sniper rifles first.

Depends on the game, and the weapons themselves. Resistance 2 for instance:
Do you want to use an Assault Rifle with a secondary Grenade Launcher?

Since I always like to use a shotgun, probably human weapons.

I use whatever happens to be lying around. Usually I'll try to stick with whatever I have the most ammo for since I suck at shooters and miss much more than I hit.

depends on what is effective ive seen a few alien weapons that need so many shots to down a person that a hand gun is more damaging

Well since I always play through a FPS on Normal, i can still rambo the shit out of it with and assult rifle so i have no need to get the alien weapons. However if the alien sniper is more powerful than the human one i use the human assult rifle and alien sniper, you know?

I usually use human, unless a better weapon comes along for that situation.

Usually human weapons, because developers can't usually think of original Alien weapons.


It's generally just a bunch of plastic-looking toy guns that are perfectly balanced to their human counterparts, in which case I'd much rather the human weapons in most cases.


I'd imagine hostile space-faring aliens to come equipped with something akin to the Cerebral Bore as an average weapon, or something that would take humans a few years to actually figure out how to even hold the damn thing, rather than have a bright purple gun that goes ZAP ZAP.

Human are easier to use generally, but alien for me are more rewarding. So alien, unless it gets really tough.

Although alien weapons are cool, flashy, and frequently more powerful than human weapons, there's nothing like the bang that a real human gun can make. Except in fallout 3, where most guns sound like a set of car keys clinking together, and the laser rifle makes an awesome sizzle noise, like it's melting the air itself.

Human. Because of the thrill - ammo is scarce when all your enemies are aliens.
The sounds of the human weapons are so neat, metal-on-metal, pins hitting bullets, the smell of gunpowder in the air
