Poll: G4...What happened?

H I started watching G4 back when it was still Tech TV, and I loved it. It had great shows, like X-Play(then) and The Screen Savers (now AOTS.)
A It was the nerd channel, for people like me.
L Let me break it outline the shows as they were and as they are now-
I Filter- Dian Mizota was the host, and they did a top ten for stuff like Best story, Worst game, and Best graphics. After a brief dab into pop culture, they replaced Dian Mizota with Beth Ostrosky, and Best music with "Guys it's OK to hate" The show now exist as a 60 bit in the ads.
W The Screen Saver- Used to be a talk show for nerds, with neat gadgets and sites, cool events, and fun stuff like LAN Party thursday and Free Play Friday. Now it's Attack of The Show, and the Around the Net is just a collection of recent YouTube videos. Plus the occasional gimmick. They almost completely forgot about gaming.
A Robot Wars- Neat little show, sort of campy. Basically robot v. Robot in a fight to the death, in an unforgiving arena. It's gone now.
L-Arena- Cometetive gaming on TV. The first place I saw Kevin Periera. 2 teams go in, one team comes out. It was pretty cool, a nerds football game.
I- X-Play- The reason I started to watch the network to begin with. With funny and informative reviews, they cought my attention. With their funny skits, they got my laughs. With their complete shutdown of reviews, they earned my hate. They have 1, count it, 1 review per episode.
Of the original hosts, only Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb, and Kevin Periera remain. Good shows have been replaced with Cops and Cheaters. This network really fell from 1337 to noob. Not "Newb" as in inexperienced or new, "Noob" as in just sucks.

When G4 took over Techtv. I refuse to call it a "merger". Even Xplay's gone downhill. Their reviews are far too bias.

Biases how? I always thought that they werea little to forgiving is all.

I dont think xplay is bias in fact its one of the few reviewers that I trust but hey that your opinion it does kinda suck now though.

One of the comments from one of their reviews says this;

I miss portal. The drifter and the HAL computer were freaking amazing. I miss cheat! and judgment day as well. I am kind of curious why they have formed it to where there are only what...2 watchable hours per day. As much as I would miss Sessler, G4 is beyond saving and there is only one option left. Kill it with fire.

I also hate G4 rewind. Why do I need to see xplay's review of "Bioshock" again? why do I need to hear about the release of the PS3 after its released?

So we can see how far the mighty fell. Seriously, watch an old, old episode of X-Play, or most of the other shows. You can see how much worse they've gotten. And the joke, well they might be a few years old, but they beat the tar out of anything said now. They also show Periera, Webb, and Sessler (the only original hosts left) at their peak. Sessler and Webb aren't bad, but they never have an oportunity to shine like they used to. Periera, eh, he's kinda a sellout in my opinion. I only watch their shows in passing now, and I don't really enjoy what I see.

I can't stand that piece of crap, "Cops", "Cheaters" is only in desperate times in which there is absolutely NOTHING bearable around my favorite channels, and X-Play...man...that use to be great. Now, its just...shame.

I agree, I fail to see how rerunning cops 2.0 for one 12 hours, and cheaters for the other 12 hours is bring them more money than producing good original content.

They've lost what they were all about in the first place. Now the reviews are even more biased and unprofessional as ever.

this is true. Its just spike with a wierd twist. "totally outragous videos"? "The international sexy ladies show" (half the stuff is weird fetish crap and nothing I'm interested in)? it has really hit rock bottom.

You took the words right out of my mouth. And I really hate what AOTS has become. In the early days it was interesting and surprisingly helpful. But when Olivia soon joined it quickly became shit. The hosts say and do stupid random shit and think their super cool. I have nothing against the show itself, but the hosts just ruin it for me.

I remember watching AOTS and it being somewhat cool (I just watched it mainly for the Feed and the sexy English girl who hosted that part. Wonder what happened to her?) but now, its just shitty viral videos and crappy jokes.

Even X-Play has gone down since they switched. I used to laugh my ass off whenever X Play was on, now its just basic reviews.

sigh... drunk link... how i miss you...... one of the main things about AOTS and Xplay were the skits, Xplays way to tell if your addicted to RPG's, AOTS's random guests. sigh...
now there trying to be all buisness.

In Canada they had to keep a certain amount of tech programming, and are still called G4TechTV. They don't run all the crap that G4 in the States does. The current line-up of shows that I can remember are:

AOTS
X-Play
EP Daily
Reviews On The Run
Lab With Leo (Though they cancelled it for some stupid reason, it still airs in reruns)
Code Monkeys
Freaks and Geeks (Not a bad show. I missed it when it airs many moons ago)
Torrent (Web and viral videos)
C-Net TV
Some random computer shows in the mornings
Unbeatable Banzuki

During commercial breaks they show mini reviews or games, movies and tech devices. The best of the Shows are EP Daily (all about games, comic books, movies, and music0, Reviews On The Run (Best game review show on TV), and X-Play

AOTS is good when Olivia Munn and the other guy aren't hosting. I love Blair Butler. Chris Hardwick is cool. Alison Hayslip is alright. The other guest hosts that they have o are usually ten times better then The main hosts.

Wait, you guys still get EP? That was canceled in the US back in 05 or 06. You have absolutely nothing to complain about, that's a great schedule.

I never heard of G4 until the whole "G4 vs 4chan" thing. I've watched it a few times, and then immediately discarded it as the 98% of television that's pure trash.

To me, G4 is just "Gamespot: The TV Show".

i like g4 the new way because it appeals to a wider audience, so whats wrong with that? they didnt alienate their old audience they just lowered the amount of screen time they get, they have a segment for retro g4 anyways so you why gripe? maybe im taking this view because spike is my second favorite channel next to g4 because spike show CSI way too much, but in the end your really not gonna bea able to change the channel your self your just gonna have to wait it out and see if they return to thier strictly gamer orientated roots, and you can really only do so much with a TV channel with like a 20 hour run time every day that is only about gaming

G4 is owned by Comcast, which chose to change management of G4. The new CEO wanted to make network similar to Spike, under the impression that gamers don't want to sit around watching shows about games. So management deciced to replacing gaming shows with shows aimed at the gaming demographic. That is the sterotypical 18-30 male testosteron fulled idiot demographic. One day I see a commercial for The Man Show on G4, and I knew the end was coming.

I know! It used to have at least 3 reviews each episode and then the rest was filled up with sketches or their characters. Now, its just video game news that no one cares about and no jokes what so ever.

I miss Drunk Link and The Ratty Hand Puppet.
