Whooo! Another "something_some_people_like_and_others_don't, why the hate?" thread. I'll answer it like I answer the others, even though it will probably be one amongst many such answers. Here goes:

It's called opinions. What some see as good, others see as bad, it's how it goes. Stop worrying about why someone hates something you like, and accept that you have a difference in opinion, as you probably hate something they like.

That was actually a bit more fleshed out than my usual response. Maybe I should copy paste it and save it for the next thread of this kind.

Also, I don't see any hate for Harry Potter anywhere, don't know anyone who expresses hate for it. I'm not sure I hear loads of people worshipping it either. It's kind of average, I suppose.

I must have reread the first 6 books about 100 times all together, no joke. Then I learned about books on tape. So add another 500 to that. I used to love them, then I got older.

I never knew there was such hate for Harry Potter. It seems like a generally well liked set of movies and books.

I don't really like Harry Potter. Not much of a fantasy person, and only read the first two books.

I doubt that is why he originally posted the thread. There are some things people just wonder about, or in this case, just posting something for the sake of conversation. Something like "why all the hate on gay people" or "why do you keep banging my girlfriend" would be more likely "something_some_people_like_and_others_don't, why the hate?" sorta thing.

If you take this approach for every thread you see like this you will be posting that that little speech alot. Believe it or not, forums are mostly to do with differences of opinion. I would say completely, but there are a few exceptions. Which brings me to my next point, Why are you on a forum if thats how you think?

The Harry Potter series . . . It has a lot of things I hate in it. It dumb's down magic, it's view on good and evil is entirely one sided and two dimensional and I fucking hate Harry Potter him self. But you know what? I enjoyed every book released by J.K Rowling because I love the characters and I always found her writing style very alluring.

Just as easily as I'm reminded of the things that make me hate Harry Potter I'm reminded of what I enjoy about it. J.K Rowling is a great writer and she can make you laugh just as easily as she can make you cry.

But I will say this. No one should EVER compare her to Stephenie Meyer.

I'm not going to go on a rant on 'how twilight is terrible' but I will say that they cannot be compared. You're comparing a modern love story without any focus on sex. (I mean the books, not the movies which basically bastardized that.) To a modern fairy tale that's basically about a boys struggles from his early teen years to adult hood.

You cannot compare their writing styles. Simply put, Stephenie can't and J.K can. I will admit that I'm a horrible writer my self. I'll even grant that I read the first twilight book and though I didn't enjoy it, I understand where the appeal is for people to enjoy it.

Now you're probably thinking. 'You're just saying that because you're blinded by nostalgia' or some bull shit like that. But surprise, I was actually interested in Harry Potter at a late time, the order of the phoenix.

I enjoyed the series even though I jumped in a bit late and I re read every book at least once. My personal favourites are The Half Blood Prince and Prisoner Of Azkaban.

The series was heavily damaged by the god-freaking-awful epilogue of the last book. Harry Potter is now a Harry Potter fanfic.

You're right. It's just the wording, and the op. It struck me like the myriad of Halo: Why the hate? threads, where people seems to just want to know they aren't the only ones to not hate it. He hardly states why he likes Harry Potter except for "good storytelling and all that jazz". He ends his post with "the movies are rubbish", exhibiting the same behaviour he seems to want explained. Lots of people like the movies, yet he puts them down without explaining why. If he had made a more in depth first post, explaining more about the books, which he likes, pointing out their good points, their strong sides, maybe there'd be something to discuss. A bit like a book analysis and evaluation, in group activity form. But this is the same half-assed attempt as most of the others.

Edit: I guess I just don't like when people don't even seem interested in their own thread. Especially an "X: why all the hate?" thread.

Edit edit: Also... this was just hilarious:
Something like "why all the hate on gay people" or "why do you keep banging my girlfriend" would be more likely "something_some_people_like_and_others_don't, why the hate?" sorta thing.

I rather enjoyed the whole series. They were pretty endlessly rereadable and the plot really developed well over the years. If I were going by the first book alone I would consider it average, but for the series as a whole its top notch.

Unfortunately, I agree with you there. Some times it seems like people just wanna see how much attention they can get,
