That commercial. THAT SCREAM.

Kill it with fire.

It's kind of a reaaaaaaally niche market, and not one I actually expect to catch on. Maybe the quality control guys were asleep?

I hate this ad. There's literally no reason for her to be involved in this, and seriously, they could have at least put some effort into her programing for the pre-existing song they used (and could have just used for the ad, yet didn't). The model for the commerical is the worst I've ever seen, which is sad when they consciously make a sub-MMD ver. 1.0 model with an actual budget, when they could have easily used SEGA's HD models at the least. And beyond that, way to steal an official artist's work, and make it Americanized by making her into a dude with boobs on the site for this horrible promo.

Can't wait for even more weeaboos to pretend they were fans all along now because of this too.

*sigh*
This whole "virtual girl meets pop star" thing is quite insane to me (mostly because I don't have a thing for virtual girls or even real pop stars)... and the car "she" is advertising, well...
This is the last great Toyota Corolla:

Fujiwara Tofu shop sign and all.

Who? Never heard of her.

My exact words when listening to this add
"Oh jesus god! What the hell is that?!!!! Its her bloody voice! Bloody hell!" Followed by me ripping off my headphones.

Seriously, that's freakin' aweful.
It's not a "her", per se.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatsune_Miku

I can see the point of doing this... but not anywhere outside of Japan. Unless Miku is an international phenomenon and I'm not aware of it.

also that drawing of her they have on the front page is horrendous
surprisingly, miku is REALLY popular outside of japan.
i mean REALLY popular. as in, i think they sold more copies of that software than any other vocaloid, with most sales not even in japan, despite the fact that miku only speaks japanese.
yeah, and this ad is targeted at american audiences.

It's about as effective as any celebrity endorsement is to me, which is to say not at all... but I am actually really curious to see how the west'd react to such a thing. I honestly thought the whole "hologram concert" thing was pretty neat when I first saw it, but I can't imagine it catching on to the point that she'd be a celebrity in the US.

I'll quote what our very own Escapist Vocaloid group said on the matter:

The ad itself is entirely pointless as far as the involvement of Miku, other than, last year's extremely delayed flood of weeaboo coverage of a then almost year old concert, where it was portrayed as if it was just a week ago. And keep in mind, there is no no MikuMiku itasha option, livery, accessories, goods or even a negi-green color option available. You are expected to want this solely based on 'popular with weeaboos 'anime' girl drives one, so you should to.'

This ad has already gained a huge backlash among fans. Mostly for the "Comic style art" used to Americanize Miku. By this, they've mainly just made her look like a man. Or a she-male as some fans are saying. As well as this awful portrait, the (presumably) American artist also stole Tony's pose made even more famous by the figure based on his official art of her released in the past few months.
I always wanted Vocaloid to get more attention outside of Japan... but not like this.

Miku is becoming weaboo fodder in advertising.

You took the words right from my mouth. I literally cringed at that 3D model.

The commercial itself is okay. Its basically like bringing in any other pop star to show off a product. The thing I hate about this ad campaign is that fucking image they have for her on the Toyota site. Its really crappy. I could have made a better image.

I'd say it wouldnt matter, but this isnt just localized to Japan (where this kinda stuff is huge). I mean, if they were going to do anything for that here in America (It says Toyota USA thats why I keep saying here), they should have tried to get the Gorillaz.

Though it sounds like its opening a new market, so you'll probably see ford try to get them.

Bad way of introducing it to Americans with the crappy voice over guy, shit model and animation and that hideous screech. The cherry on top though, is that picture on the Toyota website. Holy shit that is horrible.

I dislike vocaloid anyway though, and I'm enjoying seeing a load of fans get pissed off about how their 'underground edgy music' is all over American TV now. Also, searing for 'Hatsune Miku' like the ad advises shows a load of sexual images, even with safesearch on. Americans who actually do want to find out more about 'her' won't be pleased about that.

So, a synthesiser program is telling me to buy a boring marque of car. I think I'll stick to my Volkswagen, thanks.
Wait, you counter "boring marque" with "Volkswagen"? Ha.

Oh wow, way to get super defensive over a JOKE.

OH, and to answer your question, no, you kinda HAVEN'T made your point. A "marque" is a specific brand of car: all of those marquee may be owned by Volkswagen, but they're not Volkwagen's cars.

Audi, Bently, Lambourgini and Bugatti may be a part of Volkswagen AG, but they are not Volkswagens.

None of you have taste. Miku is hardcore.

Synthesized, holographic, digital pop star > regular pop star.
While I agree with you, Luka's even more Hard Core. Give her the car. Is Miku even supposed to be old enough to drive? :|

But you know, I was kinda expecting a japanese only car INSPIRED By Miku... Not... this... I'm not sure WHAT to say here.

What do you make of this? I find it kind of interesting that they'd choose to market a car with Miku. I mean, where I live, Vocaloid programs are extremely esoteric; Only a few of my acquaintances know of them. How many people watching the commercial will recognize her? I guess it could help her popularity a bit...
Who the hell cares? Lmao, seriously. First-world problem FTW.

Yeah, the ad is pretty weird and completely messes up the audio too.

One kind of has to wonder why they're using this commercial in the US (assuming it is) when the software hasn't even had an official US release (as far as I'm aware, anyway).

Crypton has been pretty active advertising Hatsune Miku, though, so it isn't completely unprecedented.

I know Miku is, atleast, supposed to be getting an English release soon, which would explain the massive rush.
But I agree, the audio was a bit off (since I was JUST listening to the same song about a minute before). I donno, it's a WAY to drum up interest, but I'm not sure it's THE way.
