Avengers in the morning, sun for lunch and the cool breeze in Stratford. Friday looking good.

I would say I enjoyed my cinema experience in 2014 but there was one bad side to it. My eyes can not handle 3D viewing. Plus I wear glasses so wearing glasses on top of glasses is bad for me. So this year, I have decided to just watch movies in 2D. Downside to that is, the viewing is rather a tight fit as some cinemas only do 1 2D viewing a day. 3D makes more money I guess as it cost more. Its also why I have to watch Age of Ultron in the morning. Fine by me.

So what do you think? Is 3D becoming unneeded and useless to you? Can your eyes handle them well? How about glasses users, does it bug you at times?

Let me add that for me one eye is weaker than the other so its a bit difficult to get them working together to see the 3D images. If that makes sense.

I think the only reason studios insist on the 3D gimmick is less about the extra money and more about providing one more reason as to why you should go watch the movie at the theater. They did it with Cinemascope back when TV became popular and now they're doing it with 3D now that everybody can watch movies in their freaking phones.

And to be honest, I've never gone to a 3D movie where I didn't completely forget about the 3D thing 10 minutes into the movie (unless I tilted my head the wrong way). I don't get nauseous the way people seem to sometimes but the glasses are a nuisance to wear and darken the image for the sake of a cheap 3D trick.

And no, Avengers 2 isn't worth the 3D. Saw it, felt like they had converted a 2D movie into 3D rather than filmed it with 3D imagery in mind, completely forgot about it the minute the Act 1 battle was over.

3D is only about pumping up the ticket prices. particularly aggravating for some one that can't actually see it.

3d was very annoying when it first resurfaced, it was a stupid gimmick people didn't know how to use well.

Nowdays, if doen right, it just makes the image sharper without being OtT.

Given a choice, I always pick 2D. 3D is just headache inducing, although some productions are better than others depending on how hard they try to shove the 3D in your face.

One of the most annoying elements of 3D is that some scenes in movies (usually action shots with stuff flying towards the screen/viewer) are almost certainly part of the movie simply for the sake of having a 3D scene to wow people using that technology, and actually ends up detracting a little from the film.

All of the Marvel Studios movies are like that. Thor: The Dark World was dark in terms of colour contrast and the 3D was there only 20% of the movie. Take of your 3D glasses for a few secs and you can see you didn't need it in a lot of the scenes.

Exactly, it feels like they added a 3D effect on Photoshop at the expense of color correction or something like that. It's NOT a "proper" 3D film like, say, Sanctum.

I went to see Avengers at the very first 2D-showing they had, It was over twelve hours later than the first 3D-showing. I go to the movies pretty often, but I never watch 3D unless it's the only option available.

Definitely. Especially if you see it in 2D, you get random pointless scenes. IMHO, 3D should be part of, not the point of, the movie.

2D. I already wear glasses and while I can put in lenses for the movie I would rather not have to do that, plus 3D movies cost more. However 3D doesn't bother me enough to make me not see a movie I want to see.

I like Imax, both 2d and 3d (yes, there are 2d movies in Imax, it happens). The seats are much more comfortable, the screen is so much larger, audio system is better, the cup holder can actually hold my cup and it's just one dollar more then a regular movie, since I live in Montreal (home of the Imax) where a ticket costs 8$ if the screening is before 6pm or on a Tuesday.

2D please. 3D does usually give me headaches and I've watched two movies that have actually made me care about 3D.

I don't tend to notice 3D all that much, and the only film that I considered seeing in 3D (Gravity) disappeared from theatres while I was busy watching other, less important films. So yeah, 2D unless it's revealed to be really good in 3D, in which case I might exercise the thought of possibly viewing it in 3D, maybe.

The only 3D films I've seen that really worked were CGI movies. How to Train Your Dragon did it pretty well and I only had a small headache afterward. All live action movies that I have seen in 3D gave me a horrible headache for something that didn't really add anything to the film. At this point, I would rather NOT see a film rather than see it in 3D. The extra cost of it is just insult to injury.

2D all the way!

Whenever I go to movies with people who don't have glasses they seem to choose 3D. I've actually watched a 3D movie without the 3D glasses before because it just got too damn uncomfortable after the first hour.

I don't get why they don't have some version of 3D glasses that is actually compatible with glasses, it's not like they're uncommon.

Even when I wore contact lens, at best 3D movies made me forget that I was watching a 3D movie. I could go straight to watching a 2D movie afterwards and wouldn't feel like anything was missing.

Avatar was the first movie I saw in 3D, and I vowed after that I would always take the 3D option if available.

Then I started actually seeing other movies in 3D, and realized Avatar was a fluke.

The movie that finally killed 3D for me was Thor. Not only was the 3D barely present, but I kept noticing it being used for bullshit product placement. There's a scene where Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are in a kitchen, and the only 3D element on the screen is a box of Kashi Go Lean Crunch on the table.

Ever since that box of cereal I haven't bought a 3D ticket. I also haven't bought any Kashi, and Thor is the only one of the recent Marvel movies I've had no desire to buy.

2D, always 2D! Also I too am wearing glass and I look silly wearing 3d glasses with my glasses on!

Even then the only time I truly like 3D is when I go for the IMAX experience, may aswell go out full blast!

Watching movies in 3D gives me some of the worst headaches I've ever had so I only ever watch in 2D. Helps that it's also the cheaper option.
