Just as in the topic. How do you rate your overall gaming skill. And I mean in every genre. Are you terrible in everything or the opposite?
I personally rate myself as "Pretty good" and after some practice "L33t pr0" (I'm god at solitaire! MUAHUAHUAHH!)

Also as a side question. How does your "skill level" grow in individual games? I mean how long does it take you to master it and how good can you become after some practice.
I personally have a bit of a problem with that because in every game I start I'm pretty good (even if I didn't play it before) but there is always that "maximal" level I'm able to reach, and it's impossible for me to get better.

To explain. Say I started playing Counter Strike with my friends, we all have never played the game before (well maybe a few sessions) and our skill should be balanced. Well in that case I eat them all for lunch. My skill at the very beginning of the game is pretty good. But than we play for a few weeks/months, and they get much better while I get only SLIGHTLY better. It either ends in a balanced game or a game in which they kick my ass :/.

Anyway. Answer in the poll and share your experience :).

I do believe I'm a god when it comes to Ninja Gaiden games.
I'm quite 1337 at FPS' and SHMUPS.
I'm also a god at JRPG's but I believe everyone can be one after they've grinded enough.
If you want to get better at anything, try try try.

I have rather exceptional reflexes for FPS, doing handy accurate sniper work, and effective at taking on crowds and either winning or getting away unscathed. (Sometimes it is better to run than become swiss cheese)
I have the perseverance to max levels in a Dragon Warrior game.
Really good at Ninja Gaiden, better at NG2 than NGB. much better.

I've been playing video games my whole life, so I must be at least above average. I think people develop something called "gamer logic" from playing lots of games-- they begin to recognize recurring patterns and tropes that grants superior insight into the medium.

But like all things, skill in gaming requires practice and patience. There aren't many games which I've played extensively enough to call myself a "pro", except for maybe Super Smash Bros and Pokemon Diamond.

Well, I got pretty fucken pro at BF 2142, then at CoD 4 (but only after I really began to play it consistently). So it really depends on the games and the mechanics of it. Not every shooter is equal. I play decent when I first pick it up, but then I need to play a month or so to get mad skills going on.

I am extremely experienced at gaming, but I'm not that good, especially at multiplayer. I'm a lot faster at picking up a new game than most people, and I know what to look for when I'm stuck, but when I play MW2, I generally get fewer kills than deaths. When I play a strategy game, it takes me a week or two of practice to be able to win more than one game in five.

etc.

Normal - Veteran, depending on Genre

in the Mass Effect Scaling

So Very Casual, Normal, Veteran, Hardcore, Insanity

I'm 2-3 out of 5

Ironically I'm a 5 in Mass Effect (at least the first one, Where Commandos and Shock Troopers could run around literally like human mako tanks)

Really depends on the game. I can kick near anyone's ass at Uncharted, but I am super bad at platforming.

Well, all I know for sure is that I was doing flawless runs of L4D2 on expert difficulty after three days, and I played through MW 1&2 on veteran difficulty the first time I played them, and that I finished The Mile High Club after only 6 tries.

Interperet that how you will.

I figure I'm OK/ Average. I normally play games on easy if I get that option. I avoid sport, racing and, fighting games like the plague. I don't game on the PC [so we can add RTS and MMOs to the list of games I avoid]. So once you tally up all of the games I don't play I'm already missing a great deal of what gaming IS right now. I don't really play FPS games like I used to either...

I'm pretty bad unless it's a game I play regularly.
I mean, I can do good in teams but usually totally fail when it's 1vs1.

Meh, I'm usually the high side of average. I Can usually beat most people when I'm on form, but the really good players wipe the floor with me.

Depends on the game. I'm shite at hack&slash, horrid at sports games, crap at race games, decent at RTS, okay at mech sims, above average at shooters, good at RPGs, great at platformers and pro at stealth games.

Depends on the game and the day.

Sometimes I can clean up pretty well, others not so much.

It definitely depends on my mood, but for the most part, I would consider myself a gamer with a slight bit of skill above the norm. I can quickly adapt to most games I play after a half hour or so, so that definitely helps.

For as much as I play PC games, I guess I'm not that good at them. Might be because I very rarely play multiplayer. But meh, I never really play to be good, I play because of the enjoyment. Sure, enjoyment comes from challenge, but it also comes from the aesthetics, the atmosphere, the immersion and the mechanics in any given game.
Amongst my group of friends I am by far the most diverse gamer though, I play mostly anything, any game, any genre...

At the few times that I play multiplayer(mostly enclosed in a LAN-party). I am on the top 3 in my group, but I guess I'd get frog-stomped if I ever ventured into the cesspool called internet multiplayer.
