Of course the real question is would he run for president or prime minister in the first place. I think the answer to that would be no. Guiding people spiritualy was always Jesus' perogative - despite the insistances of many back in his day - not taking over a country and running it.

Go into the polling booth and put a cross next to Jesus's name?

As Bill Hicks once said 'Do you think if Jesus came back, he's going want to see a fucking cross?'

I think it'd be hilarious, I'll put a cross by his name, just to watch the RAAAGE when the religious right realise that their very own figurehead is totally fine about gays, thinks we should look after the sick, the poor and the needy, (more welfare/healthcare/etc) and hates corporate America (turning over the tables of the money lenders.) I could also see him cutting the defence budget back to almost nothing and setting the army working on rebuilding the poorer parts of America instead.

He could also do the catering, free glass of wine and a Filet'o'Fish when you Vote for Jesus.

No but let me explain why. According to the christian faith Jesus can't commit any form of sin (at least the traditional christians believe this). But the president is often presented issues that have to be solved with an unethical approach. Or an illegal choice. A president has to be able to make the right decision, even when it goes against their morals. Would Jesus be able to find alternatives? Maybe to a few choices but certainly not all. He's not God or anything. :D

By the way, that last line was a joke.

I don't know shit about Jesus because I've never read the bible or interacted with Christian culture, so I have nothing to make my opinion on.

From what little I know, he seems like he's a better messiah and religious teacher than Politician.

I'm a non voting foreign national. (Canada)

And if Jesus became President and made America if not more a better place than to much of the news would be local stories about... boring old people yelling at skateboarders on the sidewalk or non news celebrity news which they show at the end of news. Quit showing non news on teh news please. Watch TMZ for that crap.

Yes.

By the way, Jesus never said gays are bad. Ever. Once. And he often implied that he has an opposite view on them.
Where in the bible did he imply this?
Various actions such as spending much of his time in each city encouraging and offering hope to prostitutes, shepherds, and other "people of sin". He even had a tax collector in his specially chosen membership, some of the most corrupt and greedy individuals in existence at the time.

Then, of course, there was the time he saved an adulteress from stoning, adultery being a worse sin then homosexuality.

Also, he was incredibly vicious towards the Pharisees who reveled in obeying the rules and not caring about the people themselves.

Actions speak louder than words.

If Jesus returned for his Second Coming and decided just to be his old self again (ie: just a random dude who could cure blindness, leprosy, and death) I'd vote for him.

As an agnostic, I'm a believer that teachings in the Bible are worth listening to because they give a lot of good moral ideas. And if Jesus turned out to be totally for'rizzle, then I think he'd make a brilliant leader. I'd love to watch as his first act as president is to send the WBC to hell.

Also, the Bible doesn't teach that gays are bad; it teaches that gay acts are bad.
What 2 consensual adults do in the comfort of their own bedroom should be none of the bible's goddamn business.
I disagree. It's not just some book; it's something given to us by an omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient being.

I'm sick of hearing people saying things such as: "God doesn't belong in..." He's God. He's everywhere. If you don't think so, fine. But I definitely disagree with you.

A sin's a sin.

Only in America. It would be hilarious to see the Republicans struggling with their religiosity and hatred of socialism.

You have to be born in the US to be President. Bethlehem is not located in the US.

(Not an American, btw, so I wouldn't be eligible to vote anyway).

No...I believe too strongly in secularism. Religion corrupts the state and the state corrupts religion.

Still...if we were to cut out the Old Testament and scrape that into the dustbin, I might be tempted.

If it was really Jesus would it matter if he was elected or not? Either way I'm pretty sure he'd control everything anyway.

No, what would a possibly fictional man from 2000 years ago know about modern society

Just a question.

Do you actually think that homosexuality is wrong? Because from this post, it sure looks like it.

OT: No. I believe that man has created more crap then he´s destroyed by making that little book. Like saying it´s okay to stone kids: Deuteronomy 21:18-21

18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.

Then again, if he took distance from all religions, then maybe.

I don't know. What's his economic plan like?
"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and give to God what is God's."

So, I guess "Pay your taxes and give Love freely; it has a Trickle-Down Effect."

No matter, because Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost are one, so it is safe to assume that they share the same views.
This only holds if you accept a unitarian viewpoint rather than a trinitarian one.

OT: Considering most of the hate speech that's attributed to Christianity comes from the butchered version of a Jewish book and Jewish folk tales we call the "Old Testament" and from Paul's writings, I don't think he'd be too bad of a president. However, considering his own teachings, I would be more than a little suspicious of someone who ran for one of the most prominent positions in the US and claim to be Jesus.
