So there is a Topic on the boards right now discussing video games and their possible acceptance as an art form or some stuff, i didn't read it. Sorry. But it got me thinkin.
I love to drive my car, and most other people's cars to. My entire life, I've seen driving as therapeutic. When something was wrong in my life, i drove way down Mopac, made a loop and came home, something i cant do now because it's like 35 miles and i just don't have the cash. But as i drove that distance, i would think of many things, and it was during one of these trips, or perhaps not, who knows, that i figured that driving could be an art form.
Now I've never, NEVER, been one of those people who saw Nascar as a sport. Its a big circle, your sweating from your motor. Sorry. doesn't do it for me. But indy racing, something i honestly know nothing about, seems like its driving on difficult courses, with turns and stuff. And its that difference that blurs the line for me. Nascar is going fast, Indy is taking turns well, accelerating at the right time. Its a course, with surprises.
So the question to me is, how and why do you drive your car? Do you think of every moment driving as an agony, something you do to get from one spot to the other, something you have to do, a chore? Or do you enjoy it, play music, think about things, enjoy the sun or the moon, breath in the day or the night?
And secondly, how do you drive? Is it fast and reckless, with little regard for whos in your car? Is it systematically jerky? A turn is where you turn, a straight road is what you go down? Is there absolutely no finesse to your driving, or do you make every turn, every stop, every pedal push a comfort to your passengers?
Is driving an art form?
