If you did like the first game thats not going to mean you'll love gears two.

If you loved gears 1 mainly for multiplayer then try before you buy, the weapons have changed enough to get you pissed.

Depends what you're looking for in a game, if it's mindless killing frenzy that leaves you foaming at the mouth, buy it now.
If it's a game with a twisting plot that makes you scream for more, you might be best with a different game.

(which have been given a MAJOR unbalanced upgrade from GoW 1) or shotguns (which are still overpowered for a weapon THAT YOU SPAWN WITH!!!). Good idea, bad execution.
What was the unbalanced upgrade? The only thing I see different about the chainsaw component is a new back-kill animation and the inclusion of dueling. The Lancer itself only has a bigger clip and all the weapons seem far more accurate than they were in the first game but that's probably because we can see the shots leaving a trail behind this time.
Awesome game. I enjoyed it from a mindless cathartic deathfest point of view. Storys rather lacking, But made up for by the fact that YOU'RE GUN HAS A CHAINSAW ON THE END! Also The lancer has in fact had a DOWNgraded clip size, from 60 in the first game to 50 in this. Apparently the C.O.G have decided their guys need LESS bullets... for some reason. Possiblly because theyre all idiots. Who dont seem to train their soldiers. Ever

It's fun, especially horde mode, so I say yeah.
This sums it up, though the multiplyer still has issues. But they are fixing them *insert jazz hands*

Oh and if you dont already have it, buy fallout three instead. Its better than everything in the market. Exept you're Mum. But she seems to be out of most people price range

Yes, it's worth it. The story may be cliched and the characters may be cardboard cutouts, but there are so many moments of pure awesome packed into it, you'll keep going until the end, then come back for more.

It's quite fun.

Pros:
-Decent story, bit hard to follow, but you'll get the gist.
-Good gameplay, amazing one-button cover system
-Horde is an awesome substitute for 4 player Co-op
-Multiplayer is improved from Gears 1

Cons:
-If you didn't like the first game, I doubt it'll change your mind.
-Macho-man attitudes are a bit annoying
-Random portion of the game tries to be horror and has no significant impact on the game's plot, but may set up for something in Gears 3
I can't believe so few people understood that part. Here, I'll break it down
The Gears were sent to New Hope because the Chairman had just declassified a document about it enough to admit it exists. Even Hoffman isn't told anything about it, and he's the COG second in command. Now, why all the secrecy? Simple: The locust were created there. Remember the Sires? They're the locusts' precursors. Remember that document you may or may not have found that talked about a female test subject who was having trouble breathing and was becoming very pale? Sounds locust-y, doesn't it? Remember how the location of the locust stronghold was on a computer there? It would make sense that the place where the locust were created would know where they were going.

Gow and Gow 2 are both great games to play with a friend/sibling/stranger off the street. The game really does 2 player mulitplayer really well and i think thats where it really shines. Playing it single player or over teh webternets and its a good game that has alot of good points but its not ground breaking.
