you're missing my actual problem, it isn't that wrestling is fake. It is the logical conclusion that one must reach when he/she realizes that wrestling is fake. It is also rigged, and I don't care to watch two men pretend to beat on eachother so that the predetermined loser can take a fall when the crowd is excited enough.
Chuck norris didn't really fight Bruce lee in "Way of the dragon" it was a display of choregraphed fighting but somehow nobody has complained about that.

wrestling is basically theather, lauahable bad guys in stupid outfits for the crowds to boo at, it's so ludicrous that its very hard to get mad about.

How he was booked was one of the main hate factors against him at first. 2 years in the main event scene where he constantly had the title, would never look weak against someone, and wrestled with the bare minimum amount of actual wrestling moves, and ones that where full of showboating and take the minimum amount of 'skill' to perform. Yes it was very easy to hate him, myself included.

Now a days its a completely different story. I actually have an unlimited amount of respect for the guy. He is a business guy, the only reason he was on top is because he took the company and carried on his shoulders like no one else. Have you ever seen and interview with the guy, he sleeps 4 hours a night, every night, he wrestles 4/5 times a week, does as many media appearances as he can fit in, does movies on top of wrestling full time, respects the fans who helped make him, and he still loves his job! He is superman, they booked him as superman because that's exactly what he is. But even old arguments that people used to hate him for don't work any more but he still gets the hate because he is marketed towards kids, but have you seen the crowd, 2/3 of the people wearing his t shirts are 20+. He barely had the title for past 2 years, constantly putting people over, but he still gets shit for hogging the gold and refusing to put people over because he is superman.

Its bullshit, Cena as a person has never done anything wrong, he has been booked as being too strong sometimes, but that's just because no one steps up and deserves to beat him. Its changed recently. He has never beaten Sheamus one on one on television or ppv, do you know why, because Sheamus stepped up, he proved he was willing to put the company and wresling ahead of himself and he gets rewarded for it. That's how these things work.

Cena is entertaining, he is also one of the hardest working people, possibly ever in Wrestling. Watch every ppv match he has had this year. They have all been amazing, even some from late last year were amazing. His final feud with Orton, they were some of his best matches, and they weren't because he was carried by Orton. The dude can't catch a break, he is extremely dedicated, works extremely hard, and he still gets shit for it. He is the only person who after not having the title for a year, can go up against a strong opponent, and when he wins because it was the right thing to happen, all the marks go 'Cena wins, big surprise there', get your head out of your arse for you will never be half the man Cena is.
Quoted for truth. Excellent post, man.

Little insulting at the end, but then, I ***** when I have to get up and go to work with six hours' sleep, so it's not exactly untrue.

I think the big problem that a lot of smarks have with Cena is that they grew up watching the WWF of the mid to late 90's, when you couldn't turn around without hitting a massively popular, main event-level performer. Steve Austin, the Rock, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Bret Hart, The Undertaker, Kane, and I'm sure I'm missing some...AND that all these guys were on the same shows, back before the Raw/Smackdown split. We got spoiled watching extremely charismatic, entertaining and (generally) skilled wrestlers busting their asses on national TV twice a week.

Nowadays, who does the WWE have that you'd consider a main event-level star? Sure, some of the old names are still around, but they're well past their primes. And then there's Cena, and Randy Orton, and Batista, and Edge, and maybe a few others...but they're spread between two shows, not nearly as densely packed as they used to be.

That, combined with the massive nostalgia trip and, as you mentioned, some bad booking of Cena, equals angry fanboys.

Also, Spartan2314i89058908290182904238 squared: You clearly don't "get" wrestling. Why not just accept that and move on, instead of being a condescending asshat?

I'm sorry, I don't find a "fight" to be an interesting story when it's fake. as part of a greater plot yeah, it's interesting, but not as the main event. As for a real fight not being as interesting because it only lasts two minutes, that's not the point. The point is that it's a contest where one human being attempts to overcome another. That's what makes a fight interesting, and wrestling lacks that. I don't know why you think watching two oversized children in spandex trash talking eachother is entertaining. Minus the spandex and that pretty much describes middle school, and i bet you were anxious enough to get away from that.

Isn't most of that kind of wrestling fake? If so I don't find him entertaining, because he's fake.

in his early days and back when he was all about his fans "the chaingang" he was great but as time went on and he became less of the awesome funny SOB that he was after he beat JBL and more the face of the company and his move set almost always been limited but atleast he had charisma and humor back then

Okay it's one thing to say you dislike wrestling because it's fake that's fair enough but when you refer to wrestling's fanbase (who probably make up most of the people on this thread) as "twitching, inadequate dog-fuckers" then you have crossed the line and gone from someone who simply doesn't like the subject matter and tries to explain why to being an average Youtube commenter.

If you really want to know why people find pro wrestling entertaining I'd say it's the same reason people like Superman comics. It's flashy and over-the top (this is with the exception of the Attitude Era which, in terms of style, was more like Batman with a lot more swearing and sexual references) it has some good comedy, some well told and creative stories and, fake or not, it has some well choreographed action scenes. It's essentially a sort of live action comic. However at the end of the day there are 2 kinds of people (not including people who think it's real): people who can get over the fact that it's fake and people who can't. Wrestling fans can.

I exploit the flaws in your misinformed 'opinion', develop on my points clearly and in a factual and friendly way, and you result to name calling and snootiness, way to go man, you rule.

Oh, you clever bastard.

It's been a long time since I've watched wrestling, so the first thing I thought was, "Cena's still wrestling?"

I find most "wrestlers" pathetic because they *don't* beat the crap out of each other. They're just stuntmen on steroids with mullets and waxed chests.

Although I probably wouldn't say that to their faces. Particularly not Brock Lesnar. That guy is a beast.

No. Even when I used to watch wrestling, he used to annoy me to no end.

He is not currently entertaining, but he could be, if he went back to being a a heel. When he first came up, he was pretty good, especially when he was rapping and facing Big Show and Kurt Angle. During his face run, he's gotten really, really stale.

Erm, what?
Brock Lesnar isn't a professional wrestler anymore. He's a UFC fighter, and UFC is NOTHING like the WWE. It doesn't have storyboards or anything, and the fighting is legitimate.

No. Then again sports where overly-muscled well-oiled men get physical with other overly-muscled well-oiled men while wearing little more than speedos and boots don't appeal to me. If I did like that kind of thing though I'd play the Cho Aniki series. Just as much male nudity but with an injection of humor to go along with the steroids.

What exactly do you mean by the fighting in UFC being legitimate? In the sense that people are actually hitting and deliberately injuring each other then yes...

Which is exactly why I wouldn't fuck with him, or indeed most guys that big, without an incredibly good reason.

I never cared about wrestling at all, but one thing I can say for Cena is this: Have you seen 12 Rounds? If not, watch it. He's a really good action hero. Almost to the point he's the next Bruce Willis.

poll is wrong no is the majority next time don't skew the polls it is clear what your opinion is by your post it just makes you look like a dick when your options are basically all the same and there is no alternt opinion. Next time yes or no will do fine.

I watched wrestling when i was about 7 it wasn't very entertaining then and still isint now. They are all one dimensional actors. There ether the "good guy" or the "bad guy" and can not act outside of the soap opera realm(Dwain Jonson).

Wow,,,,lots of strong opinions here. I've been a wrestling fan since I was a child... can still remember watching Wrestlemania 3 on my aunt's beta machine (if that doesn't date me nothing will..lol). I've always defended it as simply a soap opera...mainly geared towards guys. But hey, good looking guys in very little clothing... what's not to like (don't tell my man I said so though ;)
