Hello fellow escapists.

It just so happens that I'm in the market for a new shooter for my PS3 and I read about this 'MAG' and I've heard mixed reviews about this one, Varying from "ZOMG I <3 THIS!!" to "ZOMG I WANT MY MONEY BACK!"

I personally liked the idea of a big team based tactical shooter with teamwork and whatnot but does this game do any of this stuff well or should I pass and wait for black ops?

It is a decent game in my opinion, though recently it seems to have been overun with campers. You should rent it first before buying to see what you think of it.

It does not hold up well at all. Great Idea on Paper but JESUS! God forbid you're in a laggy room (Which is most of the time). I say you should rent it first then give your own opinion. I've just been unlucky enough to have GOD AWFUL experiences with taht game

Thank you I think I will.

If you got a squad that works together well, it's glorious.

If not, have fun getting killed.

More times than not, everyone will go off by themselves, so eh, I'd give it a rent first.

It's a game that has its biggest asset also being the biggest problem.

The basis of MAG is teamwork, getting together and moving as squads, listening to the leaders to accomplish goals, and so on. Which sounds fantastic, in theory.

However, everyone seems to play it like Call of Duty. So many people just run off to do things on their own, which kills any sort of strategy. Most of them don't even have headsets, which is pretty much a must.

Plus, there's a disturbing tenancy for the leaders to simply take the role for the buff that they get. The idea of the buff is to make a AoE field around the leader to get everyone to stick together. However, when said person nicks the buff then plays like the aforementioned lone wolves, well, you can probably extrapolate from there.

Really, it's a competent shooter that's worth a rental. However, it's let down by any kind of PUG game being almost unplayable due to terrible communication.

I really enjoyed this one when the game came out and played it quite a bit. However I have not touched the game in a long long time.... mainly because I don't have it anymore so I have no idea what the server population is like. But again I would just be repeating when I say that people do not play as squads should and it was only occasionally that people in the higher ranked positions would do their jobs properly.

Overall the game was great when I was playing it. But since then I have moved on to other games.

Love the game, was going to get the new gamemode tomorrow, but no I got YLOD.

But yeah the game is great, most ppl who hate it only played Vanilla and since they don't own it, tell people it sucks without having played it since the new updates.

I was borderline crying, its one of those things you hear about happening but never think it would ever happen to you. I mean I don't cry easily, the last time I truly cried was when Dog died, some 3 or so years ago.

It may have just been a machine, a console but i've been using it for so long I never thought it would be gone for a bit. :(

It's... mediocre.

Whenever I play it, I don't find myself loving it or hating it. It's not immersive or addicting but it doesn't repulse me.

I think Zipper could've done more work: more balancing, more secondaries, skills that are actually useful...

But my problem is the community. First, they basically flip you the bird and run off. Second, those who don't run off go prone on a hill and snip the entire. Damn. Time.

And, most importantly, it's way too big. The game boasts huge matches, which mains there's no such thing as a quick game: you can wait for an hour for players to join that one game mode, which makes me lose interest.

I don't regret buying it, I just think it's okay.

I don't actually own MAG but I have played both it and the battlefield series extensively, so here's my opinion.

There's a reason why DICE have stuck to making games that have 32-player limits in matches. There's so goddamn much going on in MAG, that you get completely lost amongst the mayhem and mass of objectives and individuals make little to no impact. Plus, the levels and weapons are all extremely dull (different shade of muddy brown anyone?), there are only 9 actually distinct maps and the level design is abysmally bad. I can't remember which one it was, but there's a Raven v Valor conquesty type map where the attackers are forced to essentially run across 100 metres of largely cover-free ground while the defenders have all got fantastically awesome sniping positions all overlooking it. I gave up at that point.

In short, if you want great level design, fantastic action, vehicular madness and all around awesomeness, buy Bad Company 2. It is sooooooo much better than MAG.

I found it bland and unpolished. True, there are 256 people on the battlefield, but you'll rarely see more than about 30-40 at a time. And the shooting mechanic itself is extremely flawed.

I know, right? It's such a depressing thing. I even had a first gen one, with backwards capability... *sniffle* I won't cry, I won't!

My Ps3 is a Backwards compatible one. I am going to try this thing with my Mom (just to make sure nothing bad happens) were we wrape the ps3 with a hoody, then take a blow dryer for 15 min back and forth 2 feet away and then cool it down with a fan. It might work, it might not but its worth a shot. Could save us a bunch of money.
