Is Minecraft 1.8 a good idea? I can see it being done right, but I can also see it being done wrong, and that seems far more likely to me. If they overwork the NPC villages and make them too common, that will take away the feeling of isolation and generally make the land crowded, If the Endermen/Farlanders can pick up player placed blocks, they could ruin buildings, etc. it might act like a survival game, but it's a building game at heart, and that's why most people love it. I feel like 1.8 could take that away.

I don't think I wrote exactly what I meant, but I can't think of a better way to say it.

I really want the Enderman, Creepers never have been scary to me. Sure they can destroy buildings, but it's nothing a deep trench (maybe with lava in it) can't fix.

NPC villages sound good, hopefully it's like Millenaire's mod where only one spawns and is avoidable all together.

Food meter I'm very fussy about, but I think Notch said it could be turned off.

Nope, I'm gonna love it. About the villages though, will they be adventure mode only?

Definitely a good idea. There is a huge section of the player base who are bored with the current build and want to see the game more realized. As is, it is a neat little world generator you can dicker around with. But a world generator doesn't make a game. Actually, the worlds aren't all that interesting to boot as their isn't much substance to them. Dungeons being added helped with this problem but "life" in the world would help even more. I mean, the possibilities are extreme in that case. I admit they could botch it - but I at least want them to give it a try. It could quite possibly turn a time killing game I see as nothing better than farmville into a fun game with actual content.

Worst case scenario: Notch wrecks it (which he won't, as he plays the game himself) and the modders fix it.

I say bring it on.

I'm hoping for NPC's because I have a habit of building cities, and it's kind of weird to wander around perfectly lit cities, complete with stores, housing, etc, and have nobody in any of them.

Also, endermen. Oh God yes.

I'm totally in favour of 1.8 - I have a peaceful mode multiplayer server I play on when I just want to build stuff. 1.8 might bring me back to the single player mode.

1) Villages are apparently being coded as a biome. So they shouldn't be uber common.

2) The endermen-whom-notch-lifted-directly-out-of-my-nightmares are also apparently only able to move T1 blocks. By which I assume means gravel, dirt, and sand. MAAAAYBE wood planks, if we're super unlucky. From what I've heard, their main purpose is to move the landscape around and mess with our heads, so I don't think they'll be demolishing our homes.

...My biggest worry is if they'll teleport into my house if I look at one through one of my glass windows... >_>

Honestly, I think it's gonna be a great update. The only thing I'm really hoping for at this point is bosses that you can summon in the strongholds. Giant spiders, grounded dragons, uber sized slime that shoots slime bombs at you... that kind of thing.

I really can't wait to see how 1.8 changes the game. Been waiting on ruins and villages since I got the game last october.

Endermen don't seem that intimidating, I mean a Creeper can destroy about 10-15 blocks with no way of getting them back, while Endermen can only break one block, which they (seem to) drop when you kill them.

It might be a good idea to put up a link to all the proposed changes, making the thread a self-contained one-stop place to shop if you will.

Where's the "maybe" option? The update adds a lot, and if done right it could be awesome. If done poorly, it could suck. Making endermen overpowered and overdoing it with village spawn rates are just 2 ways it could go wrong, but it might not.

You haven't read how the endermen work, do you? The block moving part isn't the worrying bit.

Something tells me you will have a VERY memorable first encounter with them... :p

There are a few things I am iffy about. Like the food meter.
I agree. I hope there's a separate 'adventure mode' option next to the difficulty.

I think it will be awesome. Provide there are options to change around. That way there is stuff for everyone to do
