I have to say that if it was not the most akward scene in the game then it certainly ranked up high. Especially when Hisao sounded like he wasn't bothered when he fell and that the day could have gone better. I do have to question his mentality though. His thought process was that "I didn't express any specific interest in any girls before this festival and instead of try and hang out with one of said girls to see if something might happen later on, I'd rather hang out with Kenji whom I don't really like that much but whatever". And then of course it became "Ooo Whiskey..." or something along those lines. But it is strange when you hear what Kenji has to say during that ending. Since he breaks the fourth wall in a sense and comments on the player or actually Hisao's degree of control over the events in his life. Also it's funny when Kenji talks about his ex-girlfriend here and in Shizune's path.teh_Canape said:yeah, trying to walk away from him for kinda making a move on you =PVault101 said:you get drunk with kenji?

Nile McMorrow said:On a separate note, I think our position as the player in this VN is Hisao's conscience rather than the character himself seeing as rather than dictating who he is, we just help him make some critical decisions that slightly influence his character. What do you guys think?
More than slightly, but yes. Hisao's meant to be a character you explore in the same way you explore the characters of the girls you choose. I think the decisions have an unreasonable amount of weight behind them, but the level of control you actually have over Hisao is very very small, especially if you've looked at the KS game-flowchart. The actions have so much weight simply because designing a more complicated choice-set into the game would greatly increase the amount of time spent making the story, and trying to 100% would be tedious since every choice would mean less, but you'd have to run through many similar paths to achieve the completion.Nile McMorrow said:Rather than the character himself seeing as rather than dictating who he is, we just help him make some critical decisions that slightly influence his character. I can agree that the actions have a lot of weight for how subtle they seem, but I do feel they are, in general at least, relevant to what kind of character he is. If you chose to have Hisao introduce himself to the class it could be considered that he is a somewhat extroverted person. If you chose to have him not he could be considered more introverted. Subsequently, Hanako and Lilly are more comfortable with the slower paced introverted type whereas Shizune really admires go-getters. Stuff like that.Baneat said:More than slightly, but yes. Oddly that decision you make has no bearing at all in the overall scheme in the game. You either introduce yourself, or not. It doesn't reduce your chance with Shizune or increase your chance with Hanako.AC10 said:I can agree that the actions have a lot of weight for how subtle they seem, but I do feel they are, in general at least, relevant to what kind of character he is. I haven't read Twilight, but Hisao seems to fit Bella's role. Quite a dull character that acts as a conduit to play vicariously. I notice that when they drop little characterisations that allow people to empathise with him. They're all pretty vague and horoscope-y, so they tend to fit almost anyone.
Aye the chart's been updated, it used to say either were fine.AC10 said:Introducing yourself DOES give +Shizune (I just checkedBaneat said:Oddly that decision you make has no bearing at all in the overall scheme in the game. Though not doing it doesn't give +Lilly or Hanako. This is used to allow you to pick a branch from Lunch Theory Evolution (then accumulated all points are reset).
Dating simulator is misleading term in this case, because KS is literally visual _novel_, so don't expect any gameplay mechanics other than multiple choices.BloodWriter said:What the hell is going on with this "game"? I'm intrigued, but I've been playing for 40 minutes, and the only thing I've got was a few simple multiple choices. Other than that it's like reading a novel.
Note that I've never played a dating simulator beofre (except Ganguro Girl on Newgrounds in high school) but I was expecting a bit more... choices, free movement around the school and such. I don't know if I want to keep going if this game doesn't pick up and open up soon.
But they sure are pulling all their best tropes, even with the disability side of things, timid, wise, shy bookworm, enthusiastic airhead, weird sidekick, glass-wearing librarian etc.
It's as if the term visual novel gives nothing away!BloodWriter said:What the hell is going on with this "game"? I'm intrigued, but I've been playing for 40 minutes, and the only thing I've got was a few simple multiple choices. Other than that it's like reading a novel.
A Visual Novel is the video game version of a gamebook (choose your own adventure type novels) so you can expect pretty much that structure.BloodWriter said:What the hell is going on with this "game"? Pretty much. Act One is the Crossroads, and there ain't no sideroads after you've passed Go!BloodWriter said:I have to ask: can you change who you "end up" with at later points in the game, or is everything written in stone after you start Act 2?
You may not enjoy the latter half of Shizune's route then. Fair warning.BloodWriter said:Damn.... well, luckily there are those Skip functions and you can just skip to the multi-questions in a manner of seconds for another playthroughs. But thanks for a nice answer this timeLoop Stricken said:Pretty much.
