Poll: Keyboard & Mouse or Controller?

Well, my first topic, here goes. A lot of my friends cry that gaming on the PC is dead, while I am a devout PC gamer. However, unlike them, I'm perfectly willing to take their side and play console games if that's what's being played. It occured to me that a lot of it is how the systems are played on. So my question is this: which do you prefer gaming with, keyboard & mouse, or game controller?

Personally, I prefer Keyboard and Mouse, I think the mouse is just that much more precise and I'm a devout WASD gamer. What's your preference?

Keyboard and mouse, for no particular reason other than the fact that I mainly play PC games. I don't use controllers enough to develop a preference for them. When I do use them though, a lot of them don't fit my hands. Other than that, they seem pretty intuitive and easy to use. Still prefer my keyboard and mouse though.

I think both have their places.

I'm not an FPS player, so the whole M+K vs controller has never been a point of contention for me. Though for RTS it's pretty much necessary to use M+K.

I will only use a racing wheel for racing games and a fight stick for fighting games, so I guess I'm just a different kind of controller snob :p

I use both, just depends on the game. I have a PS3, and I bought the Splitfish Frag mouse and nunchuck for FPS games. I love to play on my PC too, so obviously mouse + keyboard but then again for many games I'll use my PS3 gamepad, or in something like Mafia 2 I'll switch between both for driving and then gunning. And then I have my force feedback wheel for racing games. Haven't owned a joystick in a good long while tho, but I can't even remember when the last time I played a flight sim was... so meh.

It depends on the game. I'm generally better with a controller, since I grew up with console games. I've got some games on the computer that I CAN play with keyboard/mouse, but some of them are a lot harder that way (Battlefront II, I'm looking at you...)

It doesn't help that I use a laptop mouse.

I've gotten really lazy lately :/

I'm usually all about the mouse and KB... but for Borderlands and Batman I've been using my 360 controller (bought for PC, I don't own a console).. it's good for Batman.. but the aiming in Borderlands is shite... I just like sitting back twiddling my thumbs :/

And no... I'd rather cut my dick off than switch on assisted aiming.

I'm in an odd position on this lately. I was raised on consoles, and so have gotten pretty good with a control pad. However, I just got into PC gaming (but have a mac, that I bought not knowing I'd be doing gaming on it >.<), and I do really like using a mouse and keyboard, at least for Eff-Pee-Esses. I'd much rather have my controller for platforming, and games like Skate, where the controls lend themselves to a bit more of a compact format.

I much prefer keyboard and mouse for shooters, strategies (both real-time and turn-based), and games like Worms. However, I much prefer controllers for sports games and RPGs.

So both, I guess.

Depends on the game.

FPS games need a mouse though, and racing games are horrible on a keyboard.

I usually do FPS's or other fast paced games with a controller. I can't aim for shit with the mouse.

Keyboard and mouse, and if you don't agree with me you have a different opinion and I respect that.

I dream of the day a gaming keyboard is made with a built in thumbstick to replace WASD. Until I can combine a mouse with a thumbstick, I have to vote controller.

I was just about to ask if anyone has or why no one has ever made a PC game board meant to supplement a mouse.

I find Mouse and Keyboard very straining on my hands and wrist and only use that set up in multiplayer situations where other people will be using it too. I use a 360 pad for PC and find it most comfortable, except when I'm wrestling with the D-Pad.

Pure mouse on the other hand, like in the adventure games, that can be very relaxing.

Consoles and their controllers are suited to fighting, flying, platform and racing games.

A PC with just a keyboard and mouse is better suited to strategy games, FPSes, RPGs and MMOGs. Of course you could add a joystick or wheel and then it would be better suited to flying or racing than the console.

The current trend for consoles over PC games is largely because the new market for casual games (usually ones with several 'easy' settings, and with relatively little complexity) lends itself better to the console games (not to mention the fact that you can charge more for console games, and resell them with gimmicky gadgets).

I use M+K for all PC games regardless of genre. The only exceptions are when the M+K support sucks.
