Kind of. Depends on my mood. Half the time i'll make a post i know has already been spelled out earlier on the off chance someone was reading page 36 and didn't read page 11, the other half i'll write out a lengthy reply and then click away from the topic because it's on page 5 and nobody will bother to read it.

No, but before I post, I will read the entire thread, because I don't want forty people quoting me and telling me somebody has already said what I said.

5k in a week? After almost a year I have only gotten 3k and I am a pretty frequent poster. It's kind of a scary thought to imagine myself in front of my computer all day just chatting it up on the escapist >.<
It took me a full year to hit 1k. I kind of stepped up the pace after that.
jeez! that's quite the jump!

Yeah, the same thing kind of happened to me, but at half a year and less of a incline..

I don't like posting in user groups that much other than the japanese music one and I only just now found how awesome forum games are
I found out about the user groups roughly a year after joining. Coincidence, neh?

I've been pretty active in 2 user groups, though I'm not posting in as high a frequency as I was not too long ago.

It depends on how much I care about the topic. If it's more of a passing thing where I just give a simple opinion, I'll usually post. But if it's something where I would love to write 3+ paragraphs of opinion, then I'll only do that if it's within a few pages.

No. I don't really care that much if anyone reads it, but I assume that people will.

hahaha, this seems to be pretty common!

Which groups are that?
The Asylum, and the BRS/ Vocaloid fanclub. The latter has pretty much died down, though.

I feel that way sometimes, although I guess when it comes down to it, I could argue that no one cares even if I did post on the first page. I'm more concerned about bumping a thread, actually.

Yes, yes. Extra points for dignified laughter.

I stopped keeping track of who was a 'celebrity' or not a while ago. Apparently I became one at some point, but doubt that still stands.

Post count doesn't really do much except make newer users think you're more awesome for one reason or the other, really.
I think it went away after you stopped posting as often and got rid of the leapfrog avatar.

As for the new users thinking people with high post counts are awesome, I thank people like Furburt and Hubilub for raising the bar of what is considered high by being so active when they had their large post counts. I shudder to think what it'd be like having to deal with the worship complex because I had nothing better to do than post on this site.

I usually don't post unless I can add something valuable to the discussion, so if my point has been made by someone else I feel less desire to post.

I usually do but sometimes I just say fuck it and post anyways and then promptly ignore that thread. Like I probably will this one (no offense).

This too.

Not at all. Half of my posts are for myself, to project an idea in text to the best of my ability. If someone feels as if is appropriate to respond to it, then that's nice.

the asylum? What is that usergroup about? Just chatting with no theme?
Random/off topic, so yes.

I know of no other way.

Oh, how I miss LEAPFROG...

Yeah. You'll still get some worship, but 20k+ seems to be the bar. I wonder if people would even strive for such a high post count if it weren't for them, though.

Not as such, but I do sometimes choose not to post in already large threads because I figure what I was going to say has already been said.. that doesn't always stop me though.

Also, for those with "Late Poster Anxiety," I'll give my own thread reading tendency in long threads as I doubt I'm the only one who does it. I generally read the OP and the first page or two of responses, then I'll read the last couple of pages to see where the discussion has ended up. This means that I do actually read and consider responding more to the last bunch of posts than the first bunch anyway.

Whatever happened to that one? File size too big for you to go back to it?

Eh, some people would aim high regardless of if they were ever here or not. It's just a sad fact of life that some people can't help themselves and have to make everything a dick waving contest.

but didn't furburt and stuff have low post counts? They got allot more attention that those with huge post counts.

Seems like the ones is the 1k-9k get the most attention here actually...
Hubilub had more than 20k when he requested his ban, and Furburt had more than 30k when he stopped posting in the forums. Most of the people that hit that high a post count have tended to taken up residence in certain sunken Forum Games or in the User Groups and rarely post outside of them now.

The file size is about 320+kb, and I can't make it any smaller. It's completely unusable now.

Yeah. Luckily, a good number of the people at such a high post number realize that it's rather meaningless.

Now, I spend a LOT of my time on the Escapist. And I spend a lot of that time reading threads. However, as you may notice my post count is fairly low. This is because I have what I like to call Late-Poster-Anxiety. I will very rarely post in any thread with more than 3 or so pages, because I figure that no-one will see my post and what's the point of posting if no-one reads it?

So, I want to know, how many of you feel this way?
Sometimes, only if I am in a lazy mood.

Though I learned from my early experience here that I might as well post because I know there are people out there that will read practically every post(I'm one of those people sometimes).

One thing that will condition you to not really care about what happens to your post, is to participate in the March Mayhem event that the Escapist puts on. Threads for March Mayhem are crazy. During the last one, several times when I made posts in those threads, I would make a comment and post it, only to find that after I posted it, it already got buried by two more pages of comments not 10 seconds after I posted it. Sometimes, posts don't even go through(learn to keep a word file open to copy and paste comments as back ups in case you lose your post). The forum was so busy the forum hamsters couldn't keep up.

March Mayhem can also discipline a person in the way of the civil post. You realize quickly that you need to choose your words carefully because you see people dropping like flies from the weight of the ban-hammer. I learned quickly from the commotion around me, and came out of the event unscathed.

Now what I have is LQA(Late Quote Anxiety). I tend not to quote a person if they made the post more than 4 or 5 days ago. I feel that people tend not to replay to someone that quotes them long after they have forgot about the thread. Heck, I usually don't remember the threads I posted in the day before, unless I look at my profile under the posts tab.

it's weird. What makes the escapist so bad once you reach a high post count?

Whenever I ask lord Cuthburton about it he just gets annoyed and says i'm prying... Do you know what even happened to them? Well, what caused them to vanish?
Nothing makes it bad, people just grow tired of the site for various reasons. They might be in the group that doesn't like the way the site has headed, a number of friends of theirs might have gotten bored/banned and left the site so they do to, they might disagree with the way certain modwrath has been handled etc. Some people just don't want to come here anymore, so they don't.

As for them two, I've heard reasons as to why they left and I'm pretty sure of why they did, but I don't know anything for certain. Why not send Furburt a PM and ask him about it? He still logs in from time to time I think.

Ah. That sucks then.

Yeah, that's a good thing. It just sucks when you come across someone that does care about their post count, though. Thankfully I haven't come across anyone like that recently.
