BBBbbbbboooottttthhhhh.
I am partial to cats though as pets. You have to earn a cats trust. It's a different kind of connection. Not just anyone can waltz into the house and have a cat cuddle up to them. It takes work.
Once the initial friendship is done though, having a cat is piss easy in comparison. They shit in a box you can tuck away, many can eat from a feeder and know when to stop eating, and if well trained you can cuddle up to them whenever the hell you want.
Not saying dogs aren't friendly, but any dog I've met is friendly to anyone who scratches their fur and gives them a biscuit. Not saying that's not a good thing either, it's just a little...backstabby at times.
Plus, you need to walk them, you might be able to train them to eat only what they need but good luck with that. (if you have a dog that can, good for you, but I've never been able to do it.)
If I needed to pick one for a utilitarian reason though, I'd pick a dog, no contest.
