Poll: Mass Effect 2 classes

I've recently picked up Mass Effect 2 again in the hope of getting a lot of playtime out of it and actually COMPLETING THE FINAL MISSION this time around.

Problem is, as is so often the way with such games, I'm having trouble picking a class. I always have this issue. First time I played ME1 and ME2, I played through as an Adept. And I fucking loved it.

But now...I'm looking for something different, but I'm worried that however-many-numerous-hours into the game I'll end up being useless with my new class and hating the experience. Call it worthless paranoia or a commitment issue, if you will.

So I turn to you for possible advice. I genuinely don't know which class to pick.

If it helps, my normal play-style for games is to play every situation pretty cautiously. Charging in like an outer-space Rambo wannabe is NOT my forte as I'm so blisteringly stupid that I usually end up looking like swiss cheese and having to do that particular section over again.

Almost positive that there was thread like this like 2 days ago.

OT:
Infiltrator because you can't go wrong with an invisible sniper.

Seriously though, I've played Mass Effect 2 for about an hour, and I don't have it. But soldier is the way to go, nonetheless.

I don't get how sniping in this game can work effectively. All fights I remember from the game are fought in close or semi-close range conditions, so sniping seems overly pointless when you can hit whatever's blindly running at you just as easily with a pistol.

Based on what you're saying about your playstyle, I'd highly recommend trying Engineer. It's signature skill is being able to spawn in an automated attack drone, this can draw the attention of enemies who are waiting in ambush or waiting around the corner, giving you a better idea of what you're about to be up against, and even drawing these enemies out of their hidy-holes.

If that doesn't sound your thing, the Infiltrator class has the ability to turn invisible for short periods of time, allowing you to quickly peek up over cover or around a corner to see what's waiting for you.

well, you could use vanguard, if you can master a charge plus shotgun combo (and i mean using it frequently, it gets some of your shields up) you can clean up rooms really quickly, now mind you at first is hard to master, but after you get the hang of it you can literally wipe entire rooms alone without ever needing your companions

If you plan on playing on anything above normal mode then avoid the Adept like the plague. Throw, Lift, Singularity etc, only effect enemies that have no protection (armour, shields, barriers). Since pretty much every enemy has some form of protection on higher difficulties, it makes playing an Adept a pain in the arse.

Vanguard with the Geth Shield Boost is how I like to go. It basically turns you into a heavy hitting, highly mobile tank.

Sniper is typically a one hit kill and a lot of the time I remember enemies being at mid range. Besides, what's the fun of pistol headshot? :p

Well I don't have an opinion on what class you should choose I have an opinion on what you shouldn't choose. According to your play style you should not be vanguard or sentinel at all. Vanguard's signature skill is to charge right up to someone and shoot them but this can easily backfire in crowded areas or by charging into enemy lines. Sentinel's skill is tech armor which gives your shields a high boost and when your shields go down it causes a shockwave that knocks everything back or stuns them so one of the best uses is to run up to enemies and when your shield drops take down the enemies stunned or get to cover then shoot. So yeah neither of those would probably fit you.

Same here. Nothing like charging in headfirst!

I've played as in both games Solider, Vanguard, Enginer, Adept. Oh and a Infiltrator in ME One.

I had lots of fun playing as an a Adept. Took awhile to build up the balls to do it as I love guns LOL

I seriously recommend Vanguard cause Shockwave and a the Geth Pulse Shotgun = fucking amazing

Soldier because you can use any weapon except SMGs. Vanguard is a good choice, too, because of the charge and shockwave attacks.

While I usually play as a Sentinel, from what you described of your normal play style it seems as though you might like Infiltrator a lot.
Both classes are a ton of fun.

Edit: WOOHOO! Only sentinel vote!

Then you must love being completely useless until you've managed to whittle down their shields/barrier/armour with a shitty SMG. Warp is really the only thing you can use until then.

If you manage a one-hit kill with it on mechs it's quite satisfying seeing their head explode into sparks and spare parts.

I watched my brother playing through a gameplay section as an Infiltrator once and, at least from my view at the time, the cloak seemed kind of pointless since as soon as he uncloaked every enemy automatically knew where he was hiding again.

Yeah, I hate that. I tried my first Adept playthrough on Hardcore and just didn't find it enjoyable. Once you have your enemies down to no protection, you've done most of the work in killing them. It really makes your powers (except Warp) feel useless.

I'm gonna restart as an Engineer. It looks more promising as it has more anti-shields/barrier/armor options.

Still, nothing has beaten the fun of the Vanguard for me.
