Inspired by the best game series thread. Most people listed one of these two. Personally, I prefer Fallout, but it has four games(Brotherhood of Steel never existed) to ME's two, so really time will tell.

Shooter with RPG elements or RPG with shooter elements? Pause wheel vs. VATS? Space Opera vs. Post-Apocalyptic Epic? Road Warrior vs. 2001? Alien poontang vs. raider booty?

I realized something weird. Out of these two games, Fallout is the one with the plasma rifles.

This is a versus thread though, just so you know.
Shit. I thought that only applied to "which one of these characters would win in a fight" threads, not opinion polls.

You have to keep this in perspective.

Mass Effect is a Bioware game and builds on YEARS of Bioware/Black Isle/Obsidian RPGs.

Fallout was a Black Isle RPG which influenced a lot of later Bioware and Black Isle/Obsidian RPGs, in the style currently used by Dragon Age.

Fallout 3, however, is simply a Bethesda game set in the Fallout universe. While it was fantastic, in my opinion, it lacked a lot of the humor and atmosphere of the earlier Fallout stuff.

Fallout 1/2
Fallout 3

are just two too different game experiences to be grouped together.

So New Vegas should be full circle then? God, I hope that game is good. Descriptions alone tell that it'll probably end up being my favorite game.

We'll see. Obsidian is hit or miss, depending on how much free rein they are given. KOTOR 2 was a disaster because Lucasarts made them cut it off mid-production. NWN2, on the other hand, was a pretty damned good game.

I am hoping that they will pull out the old magic that produced Fallout and Planescape: Torment.

Personally, I have high hopes for Alpha Protocol.

While I do like Fallout, I've only played Fallout 3, and Mass Effect just has a larger feel of... epicness about it, over-all. Love both of the games/series, but Mass Effect wins this one for me. Maybe New Vegas will change that, but we'll see.

While I like fallout 3 a lot, it has some serious balancing issues that leave me not eager to play it again till I find a mod to fix them.

The game is just too easy to max level lots of your stats, you just dump points into intelligence and you make more spending points per level, then later you can make up those points dumped into intel by buffing another stat with a perk.

It's a fantastic game I just wish it wasn't so easy to make a character that walks through everything. I put it in the hardest mode and had no trouble at all in the game with no mods (besides hair, bethesta is the worst company when it comes to hair and stuff)

Mass Effects are great for different reasons, they're more linear than Fallout but they're still my top games.

Beat me to it. I tried playing the old fallouts and, while I love the Fallout sense of humour and the wacky 50's components, I can't take the look and feel versus what we have today. It is the same for the Baldur's Gate Series where my friends have told me how awesome they are I can't take the step backward from 3D graphics, like in Neverwinter Nights 1+2, and full voiceovers and just great looks like Dragon Age.

On a side note why do so many people complain out the Dragon Age graphics? It's not crysis but what the hell does that matter?
