French publisher Ubisoft has revealed that it is working on a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) game for the Wii console.

The title will be released this autumn to mark 25 years since the martial arts-obsessed Turtles first exploded on to the comic book pages.

Following its work on Super Smash Bros Brawl, Tokyo-based Game Arts is overseeing development of the title, which will have a stand-alone story not based on any upcoming film or comic.

Despite not yet announcing an official title, Ubisoft has revealed that the game will feature four-player action and also fully utilise the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

Tony Key, the publisher's senior vice-president of sales and marketing, said: "There is no better tribute to the Turtles than the creation of a brand new game that will help to launch the next 25 years of success."

Ubisoft previously released a TMNT title in 2007, which was based around an animated film featuring the characters.

I'll wait and see before I pass judgment. I'd love to see it done well, but it is for the Wii...
But it will most likely do well, what with it being the 25th anniversary of them.

It isn't really a direct movie license game like TMNT was but I still bet it will fail like all the other non-TMNT:The Arcade game turtle game.

I have no idea what "25 years of success" they are talking about since the original movie were good, although the sequels failed financially, everything after that has been mediocre at best. Hopefully though this will be a good game which is a slight possibility considering they are going to copy Brawl.

The first cartoon series was good and the 1st movie & game were ok but it been a franchise thats trying not to suck.

I love the ninja turtles no matter what. Its my love of them that made me go to the most recent film on opening night with my skin painted and hair dyed green and my red bandana and 'R' belt buckle presented proudly while loudly singing the 90s theme song amidst the crowds of people. I'm pretty sure I'll love this game, even if its terrible.

I would wait, however, past experience tells me this is going to be a big bowl of fail.
