Hey, when I was younger I had the original, bulky Playstation 1. And am looking at getting back into to world of slightly retro gaming.

Think the N64 is worth a go?

If you can find the right games for decent prices then yes. Though the nostalgia factor might not be too high if you never owned one previously there are some pretty good games out there.
Just watch out for rip-off prices

Yes
Personally, I think N64 games have a lot more personality than the gunmetal grey and brown rendered games today...

like kirby, an adorable amorphous ball of pinkness.
(I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for "Cristal Shards" now)

I'd say so. There were quite a few enjoyable games for the ol' 64; the only issue I ever had was that terribly-designed analog thumbstick that always wore out quickly. Third-party controllers might still be available somewhere for it.

I'm running a bit behind so I don't have time to compile a list of good games for the N64, but I'm sure others will come along soon enough and fill in that particular knowledge gap.

No, if you do good luck finding a controller in which the joystick doesn't feel like your moving it though a bucket of bolts.

Personally I would just get the emulator.
It's free, though you do have to deal with some control issues because the N64 controllers do not translate well to keyboard and mouse.

Me and a buddy have started playing it again :D
I have the best (in my opinion) consoles of every generation I have been playing in.
N64, PS2 and Xbox 360 ^^

Depends, are you the kind of person who declares a game 'unplayable' if it doesn't have the latest shader model?

If not, then absolutely, there are some incredible games on the N64.

Honestly at this point I would recommend just getting an Emulator for it. At this point, the games would be really difficult to find and it probably wouldn't be worth your while.

Also, the controllers on the N64 were famous for having joysticks that would gradually be worn down to the point where they could hit the edge of their range of motion without being touched.

The games are awesome, and so was the system, but if you're buying used at this point, you'll be buying crap.

All of these games.
They were all excellent.

I find the main reason for me going back and playing my N64 from time to time is just nostalgia.
Since you never played one to begin with, it might just feel like playing games with cheesy graphics.
Though, some of those games still have really good stories.

like a few people have said, i would just get an emulator, but you can also get drivers for a ps3 and 360 controllers (just google it!) so you can beat that problem, then if you have a notebook/laptop like i do, i got a s-video cable/hdmi cable and ported the picture from my laptop to my tv, and ta-da you now have a ps3/360 controller playing old n64 games on a tv

If you dont have a corded xbox 360 controller or a ps3 controller, then get the 360 controller, because nearly all 360 controllers are wireless now and it will be cheaper also ps3 remotes are like $100 if you live in australia like me and the cords are not as long (pfft only play-asia for me from now on, lol) also the s-video cable i got was $1 on ebay (a hdmi will prolly be about 10 to 15 on ebay but alot better quality)
If you wanna keep the feeling you can get a N64 retro port (changes the n64 cable into a usb cable) but i would advise against it as the N64 controller are just not as well desgined or made

I also found that the frame rate, colour and smoothness of the graphics were alot better through emulator (AND IT IS FREE)

Hope this helps make your mind up
