Do you ever become overly obsessed with things?

I often do, sometimes I have to avoid certain things entirely, lest I develop an unhealthy fixation on it. Art and Music in particular.

I'm not sure what it's actually called, but I call it 'Psychotic obsession' - fanatisism to the point of near-insanity.

I'd imagine that this gets around a lot around here, what with most of us being nerds, and the evidence of the many console/game flamewars that seem to happen.

What do you think?

Somewhat. I mean, I've been here for most of the morning, refreshing every few minutes. Actually, make that a yes.

Well not obsession in the normal sense, but I have OCD so i'm pretty much just obsessed with opening doorknobs with both hands, not stepping on cracks in the floor, etc.

I can get pretty obsessive about a number of topics, yes. Aspergers probably has something to do with it.

Yeah, not quite what I mean, but having OCD sucks as well (I have Mild OCD).

I'm talking about instances where everything else shuts down in favour of a single thing - for example, I once went two days without eating or sleeping, listening to an record I bought on repeat over and over. I was quite freaked out when I snapped out of it.

I've spent over 30 hours on composing a piece that lasted 3 minutes where I went through so many chord patterns I nearly went mad

Also on doing some things in video games I probably should be insane

The first thing that popped into my mind after reading your title op was By Calvin Klein.

OT: I do, but only with certain things. My last 'obsession' was with Mass Effect about a year ago. I wouldn't stop playing and I had to do every single side mission.

Well then, only once. I bought some video game a while back and it actually caused me to fail a class. I stopped caring much about school since I just played it at the nearest opportunity. I eventually freed myself when the game broke.

I can obsessively listen to a song without getting bored for ages, on a loop.

At the moment it's Hymn to Red October.

Yeah, I have obsessions. It's better than being addicted to something dangerous like the dangerous drugs, though.

I used to feel uncomfortable if I didn't lick the same fingers on both hands clean. If the TV's on standby I must turn it properly off, and if someone's cleaning their teeth, I'll turn that off.

No offense dude, but if its that bad, you might wanna think about talking to a doctor.

OT: I occasionaly have this problem. Mainly girls. That poll option was exactly like me.
