So let?s say you?re playing with a kitten. The kitten has initiated the play. You were just making your presence known, possibly observing something, and the kitten pounced at you. So now you?re playing with a kitten. The kitten is adorably enthusiastic and inept as kittens tend to be. You bat it around a bit and it bites at you but can?t break skin or anything serious. It tumbles around and bites its own tail. It?s being cute and ineffective like most kittens are. Then you get bored. Now the kitten has lost none of its enthusiasm for this hopeless struggle but you are bored. You?re no longer even playing nice. You?re tumbling the kitten around and people are looking at you funny. Now, you are not under any real obligation to entertain the kitten. It?s not like there?s a possibility that you?ll let it ?win? and eat your hand or something. Do you stop playing with the kitten?

Captcha: "wishy-washy" (thanks for pointing that out Captcha)

Unlike (apparently) most people on the internet, I'm not mesmerized by cats and have no problems not giving a fuck about them.

Umm yes? Is this a trick question? I'm not being lulled into a false sense of security by the kitten while someone elseis rifling through my backpack trying to steal things am I?

Is the kitten sapient? Can it talk?

Metaphor for an annoying friend? Or maybe a toddler?

If I was getting bored, I would just stop playing with the kitten, it's not like I owe it anything.

It's a metaphor for an argument that somebody wanted to have. They weren't particularly good at it and were making more points on my "side" than theirs but I found their enthusiasm amusing... at first. Now i'm wondering if I should carry on for their sake or just stop for mine. I'm going to stop. I was just wondering if people consider others when they do that and that maybe some people just need to rant at others to feel better? If it doesn't cost you anything, should you let it carry on?

Captcha "i'm only human". (well I guess that settles that?)

Is this a metaphor for a partner/SO? If so, just let them go, life is young and all that crap.
If it's literally a kitten then it's probably good arm exercise or something, keep it up.

I don't think it's possible for me to get bored playing with a kitten. I suppose if it was a few hours, and I got bored, I would stop.

Fair enough, I think you're making the right choice. Why waste your precious time doing something you're bored with, there's plenty more people on the Internet for that individual to argue with if they have to :)

You obviously don't know my cat. She can rip anybody's face off and can get very defensive. I like playing with her and petting her sure, but she usually stops caring about playing before I do. I guess I'm the kitten if we have to go by your example. Also, I noticed your second post clarifying the metaphor ... There is no point in pursuing an unimportant argument once you're tired of it. Do not continue the argument because if you don't you're "letting the other person win". It's not even worth it.

Great advice all, thank you.

Your vicious cat story reminds me of when I was moving in with a GF who had a very violent cat of her own. So one day when she was away and the cat decided to attack me, I picked him up and bit him like a sandwich. We were the best of buds from then on. The GF couldn't understand why.
