So over the last couple of days I've been looking into the new PS Vita, and it's actually been quite a pleasant surprise, because it was one of those things that I never even paid attention to during the buildup to it's release, because I'm not a fan of the handheld normally, nor have I been a fan of Sony since the PS3 era.

So, even without the pre-release hype, looking into it after release it actually looks really tempting to me, not because of all the gimmicky new controls, but because there might be some actual non gimmicky, core games that I love. (One of the reason I'm not a fan of my DS is because most releases really aren't challenging or interesting games, just more 'casual' type things). It's also been confirmed that FF X will be on the PS Vita at some point, and rumored that there will be a FF VII remake or port at some point, which is music to my ears.

The only things that are holding me back are:
1 - Apparently it doesn't have a very good battery life, though I don't see myself needing to play it for more than 5 hours in 1 sitting.
2 - It's quite steep in price if you want either 3G or extra memory, and then the games cost about £30-40 each.
3 - It's not got an AMAZING array of games at launch, a few decent looking ones, but nothing that really catches my eye.

So people that have a PS Vita already, or people that have looked into it, what do you think?
Is it worth it right now, or should I wait a while longer, or just not get one at all? Also if you could point me to a few launch titles that I may have overlooked that are really worth the buy, please let me know :)

I bought Wipeout 2048, which is absolutely fantastic,
and i got MVC3 for free, which is fun too.

And my girlfriend adores the Uncharted one, and claims it's just as fun as the PS3 ones.

Sadly, Gravity Rush is nowhere to be found here in Europe, was looking forward to that one.

To say the Vita is 'worth the buy' really depends on what you plan to purchase for it, me, I bought Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Escape Plan and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 all of which are excellent games I have really enjoyed. I am a massive Uncharted fanboy though! I also picked up some PSP titles I missed like the 3rd Birthday, so along side demos for quite a few of the other Vita's games I am happy with my purchase.

To answer your hold backs:
1) I get around 4:30 hours with wi-fi turned off, etc. It's good enough for use aside on a long haul flight.
2) It's very steep in price, you can get good deals that throw in a memory card though.
3) Sadly, the one game I demoed before the Vita's release (Gravity Rush) is not out yet but I am a huge Uncharted and UMvC3 fan so that was enough. I then got some PSP games from the download store (not a PSP owner so no re-buying). So I have a lot to play!

It's worth it right now if you see any games that appeal to you, otherwise, no, hold out.

That's my only problem now then really :p - Thanks for your reply too.
Since I don't have a PS3 then I don't really know if I'd like uncharted or not, although I've always wanted to try it. Also since there are no JRPG type things out on it yet (since they normally take longer to develop due to their huge completion times), are there any that I could buy from the PS store thingy that were on PSP that would keep me going until there are more RPG titles on the PS Vita? (That's how it works, you can buy old PSP titles from teh internetz right?)

I have the 3g.. only got it because it had a 8gig mem card (store had 0 mem cards to sell) in it and said free PSN game too.. so wasnt that bad of a deal. I bought Uncharted and Lumines.. Lumines is fucking awesome! I am super addicted to it. Uncharted is great as expected.. maybe story lite, but its still good fun and pretty polished.

I played all the demos they had and Unit 13 looks like it should be a fun 3rd person squad/co-op shooter.

Rayman is a very polished game and quite fun for a platfomer (my least favorite genre)

Dungeon Hunter Alliance is a rip off considering its 15 bucks for the PS3 and its the same minus some bad touch controls.

I have the 3 AR games and they are pretty cool.. much better than the 3DSs AR stuff I played.

I also was able to download some of my favorite PSP games and transfer them over for free.. so I have Tactics Ogre, Ys Seven and Persona 2 portable too play also.

All in all I am super happy with the system, early adopters always pay more.. but I am fine with what I have. I am going to order a 32gig mem card and wait for the games to pour in.. Warriors Lair looks sweet!

Google the list of Vita games, or have a look at this one from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Vita_games

Here's my take, OP: I love my PS3 (and my PSP) and don't care at all about Uncharted, so I'm waiting a few more weeks. When I do pick it up, I'll get the Wi-Fi model and spend the difference on extra memory. It was an easy decision because the games I've got my eye on include Sumioni, Escape Plan, and some of the HD remakes like MGS and FFX. Only one of them has been released so far. I really think Vita will be worth the cost (for me), but it's a cost I can afford to delay for a bit longer.

Not buying until I hear of the Persona 4:The Golden release date in the states.

I hear the Japan release is somewhere in June.

To be honest, I've been wrestling with this idea as well, but launch titles aside you can look at the specs and see if it's confortable for you, there are some drawbacks as with any hardware release. I had found this article about the vita specs vs a 3ds that seemed pretty informative, but it does not include comparing the preloaded software.

http://www.geek.com/articles/games/ps-vita-vs-nintendo-3ds-how-the-specs-compare-20120216/

I've not decided myself, but I was leaning on the 3ds (I know this is not what the thread is about, just my personal experience.) Mostly because I was excited for the titles on it, as most here will tell you, if you are excited for titles on one then it makes the decision a lot easier.

edit: If my choice was simply "to Vita or not to Vita?" I would wait more for a pricedrop on the system or at least 2-3 games I am excited for.

Out of the people that have got it, a much higher % of them have said it's worth it than out of the people that haven't got it. Might mean its a really nice surprise when you get it, that or they're justifying their purchase. So close to getting one right now xP

There's this big electronic chain of megastores called Media Markt here and they had this offer, if you bought a Vita at their store, buy two games, the cheaper one would be free.

I already pre-ordered my Vita at their store, so i got Wipeout 2048 and MVC3.
But i made a mistake here, WP was 39,99, and MVC3 was 44,99, so i got WP for free.

If you want one then wait for the Price drop, The stable of good games is weak, It's Overpriced, and it isn't that well supported by Developers, So don't expect a lot of third part exclusives on it, at all.

I have a PSP with plenty of games and equipment. Buying the Vita at would be ridiculous redundancy. I've already got an extensive amount of gaming going on.

For me personally, no, i simply don't want or need one. I don't want to drag that big ass device with me whenever i go out and play games like uncharted while on the bus or if i get bored at a lunch break, i would rather play some simple cheap/free game on my smartphone, if i would just keep it at home then whats the point?

There are chances that there will be a price drop similar to the one on 3DS. Wait a bit and see if any games peak your interest. It's always better to wait when a new console comes out just to get a good library.

For me it's a matter of money. :p

Plan to get one someday, maybe this week, maybe next month. Will have to see how "motivated" I am and how good my "impulse control" is.

I look forward to mostly Persona 4 which isn't out yet in Japan and hopefully will get an English release (physical or online, doesn't matter to me). If I get it, I'm probably going to tide myself over with the PSP games which I never played like Tactics Ogre and Trails in the Sky (hopefully it's on my PSN). Maybe try Monster Hunter again - couldn't get into it the first time.

Money is not a problem for me, much. I saved up for 2 years to buy an Itouch, i can do it again.

I don't mind buying the Vita but the backward compatibility is an issue - what are the odds I can find Radiant Mythology for the Vita? It's more than fair for Sony to protect it's games and system using propriety hardware but I'm doubtful if I will pay again for a game just to play it on the Vita card. Also, don't forget that since normal memory cards cannot be used we now have to pay extra - just to save the game data. I don't want to get used to that. Sure, protect your IPs but to me paying extra to save my game data is a bit much.

The biggest draw for me to buy the Vita - if that happens - would be the new Project Diva game coming out. Most likely though I would have to buy that through JList/JBox. My country tends to be severely neglected in gaming.

Looks nice in quite a few ways and I am interested in a few games for it but not enough to buy it I still have quite a lot of games I can play on the PSP and DS if I am away from home for a while, so the 3DS and Vita would be largely pointless purchases for me at the moment.

Where have you heard this rumour? I am very sceptical of this happening and am inclined to write off this rumour as having no grounding in reality (for the remake anyway) .A port is definitely on the cards if you cant just download it from the PSN like you can on the PSP already.
