Teehee, the chart looks like a boner teehee, bai thuh wae, I can cownt to potaytoe. 1, POTAYTOE!! But in all seriousness, I marked myself at the slightly below average level. If I were to compare myself with a computer, I would be a laptop with a AMD TF-20 processor with 1.66 ghz of clockspeed, 2 gigs of ram, 160 gbs or HDD (no SSD here, nosiree), no hdmi or dvi port, a vga port, 2 usb 2.0 ports, windows xp-windows 7, and some unidentifiable graphics card that can play very few games fluidly, even on minimal settings. In case you already caught on, I was describing my old laptop. We were so alike, and I hated it so much. Oh, and I have negligible cache and and I am still running firefox on it, yet to switch to chrome. (I've switched to Chrome on my new comp, and it is definitely much faster) Basically, I can accomplish basic data processing, but with the barren amount of ram, and small hard disk drive coupled with a cheap processor, you really have to shut everything else off before I can even attempt to do well in even a single task, and even then, it probably will not be A-grade work. I'd say my only redeeming features are that I seem to pick up languages fairly easily when I actually put effort into learning them, and that I am pretty good at drawing.

Average, if not below average.
I don't really care though, I'm happy and what else matters?

Top of my year for all my A-levels, so academic wise I'm probably pretty good.
The only problem I have is working in retail, the average person can sometimes come across as lacking in any though processes whatsoever.

So I'm torn between genius and slightly above average.
If I had to guess, I'd say about IQ of perhaps 130-ish.

As an amusing little aside, I once got a 239 on an IQ test just to mess with one of my friends.
130 is not 'slightly above average.' That's two standard deviations from the average, which would put you at a single IQ point below Mensa. 115 would be significantly above average.
between Genius and Slightly Above Average
130 is in no way slightly above average. There's nothing slightly about being that far above 115.

Edit: Eh, but you don't have any other other options in the poll. I get it. I was just thrown off by 'slightly above average' paired with an IQ of 130, which in any other situation would make me spit tea all over my laptop.
I only just read the message from your quote, and was about to explain it, but then I saw your edit. Yeah, 130 is kind of beyond average (or slightly over) but I would hardly say it quite stretches into even the lower limits of genius territory. To me, genius is a 150+ IQ.
So, yeah, limits of the poll and all that.

I'm intelligent enough to know that I'm not particularly intelligent.

Also, fun fact: most people believe they are slightly above average. Which of course cannot possibly be true considering the definition of average.
No, that is the definition of median, not average.
So, let me see if I can do better than pages 5 & 6.

You can have 10 incredibly stupid people, and everybody else can be slightly above average. You get one F in school, and most of your grades are likely to be above your final average.

Your median grade will be the grade in the middle of the range of all your grades, and does not always come close to the average.

Take the following example. Rather than grades, say each of these are IQ levels.

99
98
97 - Median
96
50

Average = 88

So four people are above average, and one is below average. It is mathmatically possible for most people to have above average intelligence. Being above average is not necesarily anything special.

Now, lets adjust it a little.

110
99
98 - Median
97
96

Average = 100

So now we have four who are below average, and one above average individual. This individual is above average, but at the same time this individual is the smartest in the group.

Having above median intelligence is an accomplishment. Saying one is above average requires knowing whether or not the average leans to the high, or low side of the median.

Knowledge is an accumulation of things, wisdom tells us which things are worthwhile. Academic accomplishments mean little without the wisdom to be able to use them.

My IQ was 142 at age 18. Its now 143 and I'm 25. Not much variance with age. I'm happy about that. Sept... I missed genius level by 4 damn points... No giant free grant money to go to college for me. :(

Just so people know. IQ does not mean how smart you are. Its how well you are able to memorize information and in what quantities. You still have to learn the information, AND learn how to use it.

The average IQ of humans has increased steadily over the last 50 years. IT use to be 108 back in the 60's. It was 110 in the 90's. Average IQ now is roughly 115-120 depending on the generation.

IQ is also relative to age. Your IQ may be 130 at 19. But it can be 115-120 at 30. Becasue your being compared to your current age.

There's a... large gap between "Slightly Above Average" and Genius...
Imana round up though. I've met "Slightly Above Average"; those people are fucking annoying.

Well, it's actually been 100 since inception; it's normalised as such. It's just if you took the raw results from 10 years ago and the results from now, they'd be about 5 points higher now (with the increases occurring largely in the lower half of the population).

Because I can spell genius, of course.

These threads are really, truly awful. Please stop making them, they just attract far too many pretentious gits.

I answered 'above average' because my grades at school are above the average grade, but I chose that very reluctantly. I don't consider myself all that clever, and choosing that just clumps me in with all of the other cocky idiots like me who think they're clever because an internet test told them so. Besides, intelligence is hardly something quantifiable. Some footballers are amazingly good at strategic thinking on the pitch, but are completely thick outside of that game. So either everyone's a genius because of some niche talent, or no one is a genius at all because everyone is shit at something.

It's strange how the average person has above average intelligence, isn't it?

How the should I know? Seriously, how should I know?

Should I arrange every single person in the country to partake in a pub quiz? We all have specialisations in some trades and subjects. People who go off an say "I'm an all around genius" are stone faced liars. Run up to them and say "What's the proper mixture for cement, in a ratio of Sand and Cement, if I was building a garden wall in my front garden?" Chances are the genius would say "That's not really my field." which doesn't make them an all around genius.

And Google doesn't make anyone a genius. No, it doesn't unless you have memorised every god damn search in Google, and if you have, Congratulations man, that must've taken a lot of work.

My point is, is that I don't know. IQ can be inaccurate so fuck that shit and I'm more specialised in some subjects over others. I don't know history ll too well outside of the industrial revolution, but symbolism in literature, movies and stuff? Boy I can tell you about that.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK I am angry and I don't know why.

If you can think of a subject, I'm probably terrible at it. I don't know how I made it through school, and I'm not surprised I failed to complete my college course in computing. Twice. I'll probably fail again this year, but I might as well try again, because why not?

Genius. Various IQ tests have put me in the 136-156 area.
It's not all it's cracked up to be. Combined with my ADD, my grades are pretty crap. Stuff that interests normal people for huge sustained periods of time only interest me long enough for me to get a decent understanding, and then I simply move on.
I'm much more interested in knowing a decent amount about everything and seeing the overall picture of how everything relates than getting bogged down in minutiae of any single thing.

If I had lived in the Renaissance I'd've probably been Leonardo da Vinci-type famous as a "Renaissance Man" - good in art, math, science, language, history, problem solving, carpentry, technology literacy, etc. Unfortunately, we now live in a world where Renaissance Men/Jacks Of All Trades/Polymaths are seen as less useful than individuals who are absolute masters in a single field - something I doubt I could ever be.

It's also a bit....limiting in dealing with other people. Can you imagine how many women I just can't see as having any potential for a relationship? Intentionally simplifying your vocabulary and having to explain things you've known since you were in elementary school is....frustrating.

Being a genius certainly doesn't mean you know everything either. There's plenty of stuff I've never bothered learning, simply because I wasn't interested, or it was never important to my world. I know loads and loads of useless shit though.
As long as you're willing to admit when you don't know something and are willing to work with and learn from the people who DO know, regardless of their overall intelligence, everyone functions on a more or less even playing field in day to day life.
*shrug*

I'm not sure if I'd want to be the type of genius that has the focus to become a supreme master in a single field (like Hawking, for example). I may very well do amazing in school and make tons of money and know insane amounts of stuff about one thing, but I feel that would just make you even MORE isolated from being a part of normal society...

IQ is sort of the horsepower of your mind. One mind may have more horsepower than others, but it's still up to the individual drivers what they do with that power.

Am I the only one itching to make all these 'geniuses' prove themselves?

Can we devise some sort of test? And no, none of these online IQ tests - they're much too easy to cheat on, and if you've done one recently you've got a much greater chance of getting a high score. One of you so-called geniuses come up with some sort of genius test, please! I really want to see the results.

Had to do 2-3 tests, got around 130.
Got me into more problems than it helped during my school time, but got better once i grew older.

But that's only cognitive intelligence and there are 4-5(?) other kinds of intelligence too.
So jeah, on the cogintive part i guess i'm above avarage.

That is what ADD means.

Actually, no. The Escapist, as with many places on the internet, tends to attract a lot of similar people. In this case they tend to be above-average intelligence ones.

People caring or not is irrelevant. The topic has nothing to do with if anyone cares.

IQ tests are kind of bull shit in general. One of my old teachers talked about how she was taking and IQ test, and because was a math major she knew the one formula to deal with an equation that just happened to be on the test. And of coarse she got the question right. But the test didn't rate her intelligence, she just had been told how to do it. If you where to figure it out on your own, yeah that's intelligence. But just getting told and just knowing the answer is not intelligence.

I know quite a few things, but am still naive to somethings. Though having some knowledge is better than having none. Though half the celebrates in LA, I could say otherwise, except Robert Downey Jr. that guy is awesome.
